What exactly is year 11 ?

It doesn't count towards our HSC or anything..

I've heard it's just like a foundation year, hence prelim.

Do internal ranks matter in 11 ?

Year 11's purpose is to prepare you for the workload of the HSC year, which is alot more than in year 10. It gives you time to adjust, and you can stuff it up a bit and fine-tune your study habits for year 12 (you can stuff up because nothing counts towards your HSC in yr 11).
Also, you get time to test out the subjects, and change anything you hate before it gets serious.
Alot of the info learned in yr 11 is foundation for yr 12, and it would be hard to do the yr 12 content without yr 11 as a basis. Mathematics is the only course where some of the info learned in yr 11 (20% of the exam is on yr 11 stuff i think) is tested in the HSC.
Internal marks do not matter for the HSC, they only matter if you want to have the knowledge that you beat your peers...

Your school can decide to count your marks/ranks for year 11 maths but this rarely happens.

Nothing actually directly counts towards the HSC. But if you don't do any work, you'll really feel the strain when you get to the HSC, because so much stuff is based on year 11 work, especially in maths and sciences

I am really looking forward to Year 11. Although I realise that the workload is going to dramatically increase... (especially when I'm accelerating)... But most of us are choosing the subjects we love. I am only choosing subjects that I like and know I will do good in.

I don't really care much for rankings at the moment. Although my ideas about that will change for year 12 :)
