existentialism --> "A philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one's acts"

In other words, existentialism places emphasis on individual existence, questioning why people are alive? what is one's focus in life? and are we all just waiting around till we die?

It's a very pessimistic view of life, and as you can see in "Waiting for Godot" and/or "Zoo Story", the plays are about 'nothing', as theatre of the absurd derives from the existentialist belief that there is nothing in life...we are all just waiting around till we die where we will then meet our purpose in life.

Jean-Paul Sartre, very good philosopher to quote from in your essays, as well as Friedrich Nietzsche. It's best to research "Existentialism" and "Theatre of the Absurd". You're bound to find HEAPS of information.

Hope that helps!
