*checks Modern History notes.*

Yasser Arafat was leader of the Palestinian terrorist group Fatah, and became leader of the PLO when the group integrated into it. He's been the most prominent Palestinian politician/spokesperson for around 40 years. Just to make things clear, he renounced terrorism as a legitimate way to secure a Palestinian state in 1988, and sought to establish a secular Palestinian state.Which was a bit of a problem for the number of Palestinians who wanted to see Israel destroyed completely - these people (among ther factors) are the reason terrorist groups like Hamas gained prominence.

from wat ive read over the past few yrs.............he seems like a pretty shit leader................gave up fighting for the freedom of his ppl so he can profit from his alliance with israel............played on both sides (pretending to support his ppl and pocketing from the israeli government)..........he seems to be the reason for all the trouble

ummm, no. I think you got it wrong now. Israel hates him, he makes them look bad because of his willingness for peace. The Israeli's say that he blocks peace when reality is the opposite. This is especially why he is soo hated.

The people absolutely loved him, along with every middle-easterner, muslim, arab and black south-african.

yeah i thought he was one of their most loved leaders
He was. That, of course, doesn't make him a 'good leader', but it sure says something for his character.

Yeah well, shoudln't take me literally.

Point being, you either love him, or think he was much too easy on the Israeli's.

Which is the exact opposite of what western media portrays him as, they all make him seem like a complete fanatic who supports death and hates peace.

Yes however he did nothing to stop homas... or at least not enough, he needed more control over the militia's...

Remember that he did sign for peace, he agreed to it however he simply couldn't control them because he didn't want to piss off a bunch of people...

y are palestinian and islraeli people fighting?

and y are people throwing rocks at tanks?

It is a huge issue, and it would take a LONG time to learn about it all.

can i ask..........when the black south africans were fighting for freedom during apartheid, they were labelled as heros............yet when hezbollah fight to free south lebanon from israeli occupation and when the palestinians fight to secure the tiny amount of land they have been given by israel (although the entire country is initially theirs) they are labelled terrorists..........they should fight. its their right................im sure everyone of us would not give in if we were in this situation

If he went against Hamas, he would of lost the confidence from his people. By remaining vague, he would appear to be moderate.

What would you have him do?

How would you even have him stop Hamas?

And above all, how does bulldozing houses and building settlements against international law help stop terrorists?

Or building a gigantic wall that coincidentaly anexes Palestinian land help when it could be built for cheaper completely on ISraels land and hence be legal?

the MAJORITY of palestinians supported the oslo peace agreement, there was going to be peace between the two peoples... the political leaders on both sides were in agreement however homas ruined it.

That is like saying the aboriginals should set up terrorist groups and fight to kill us.

Im hoping in the future, when things are put into retrospect, people will realise the fundemental right the Palestinians have to self-determination.
