Well, it's all over, but I just discovered this thread. For my music 2 performance I did:

Core:
- Frangipani - Ross Edwards
- Bagatelles 2 and 3 - Carl Vine

Elective (1900-1945):
- Preludes 1 and 2 - George Gershwin

Hey, I'm in year 11.

I'm doing music 2 and music extension (composition for extension...which I'm almost finished with anyway). I'm not sure what pieces I'm going to be doing for performance yet, but I've been thinking about a few possiblilties.

There's a movement from Enescu's Piano Suite No.3, which is really beautiful. E minor, slow...ish.

Then if I can, I might play one of my own compositions for Australian music of the last 25 years, I think that'd be nice.

Then I don't really know what else. Maybe some Bach...Debussy...there are actually some Ravel pieces I'm currently working on that would be good to do the for HSC. I'm just learning them for my Amus, which I'm going to be doing next year (09) in April. I'm excited for that. I just started in around August.

But yeh, Enescu is a really good composer to do for piano, or violin....or anything really...well, as long as he wrote for it!!!! (lame laughs)

Hey I'm doing my Amus for piano next year too!!! Although I'm terribly nervous... I always get nervous when I have to do performances.

I'm only doing Music 1 because our school doesn't offer Music 2, let alone Music Ext. Argh!!

I'm thinking of playing Prelude No. 1 by George Gershwin- it's awesome!!! And possibly one of the movements from Sonata No. 6 by Beethoven... Yeah, and Debussy's pieces are nice too... I don't know. I'm thinking of playing a Chopin Nocturne as well.

Decisions, decisions.

I'll probably be doing three performances on piano and one viva.
The Bells of Notre Dame (from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame) by Stephen Schwartz (my own arrangement because the actual piece goes for about seven minutes)
Theme from Schindler's List by John Williams
Allegro in A by Wilhelm Bach

Decided I might swap Allegro for Gnossienne no. 1 by Eric Satie. It's much, much nicer.

I'm a baritone vocalist.

Definites:
- The Killers - All These Things That I've Done

Ideas:
- Roland Orzabal - Mad World
- The Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah
- Travis - Why Does It Always Rain On Me?
- Silverchair - Freak
- Coldplay - Viva La Vida
- U2 - With Or Without You

I'll probably be doing 3 performances: 1 as core performance and 2 electives.

Mezzo soprano, Music 1 student...

I love our topics they're great and straightforward :)
And so far I think I have three of my pieces sorted:

-By the Sea; Stephen Sondheim, Sweeney Todd (Musical Theatre)
-Voi Che Sapete; Mozart, Marriage of Figaro (Instrument and Its Repertoire)
-Desafinado; Antonio Carlos Jobim (Music of the 20th and 21st century)

I'm not sure what my fourth piece is, although it won't be hard to represent any of these topics again, especially Instrument and Its Repertoire...

I think our music teacher is just happy to have a class which is prepared to treat music as a serious subject -unlike the last two years of consistent guitar jamming...

My singing teachers a fan...

Actually I was little stunned when she suggested Mrs Lovett, until I realised how fun and interesting it would be. Mum was a bit harder to convince, "But she makes people into pies!!" She'd rather I did a 'nicer song'.

Its a bit different from anything I've done before and I'm pretty sure no one will expect it...

i'm playing clarinet for all of them [which sucks cause my 'chops' are gonna be screwed by the end] and i'm doing 3 pieces for music2 and 3 pieces for extension.

MUSIC.2:
Core:
- 'Ulpirra' - Ross Edwards [i love this piece so much! but section 2 is a bastard sometimes!]

Elective:
have'nt reallyy put much thought into this at allll!!!! im doing 19th century music so i'll probably end up doing some brahms sonata or a weber concerto etc.
and then for my 2nd piece i'll do another piece reflecting the core topic, cause i love contemporary instrumental music. so fun to play!

im thinking of doing the 'morning star II' by paul stanhope; written for flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano.

EXTENSION MUSIC:

- Time Pieces - R. Muscinksy [or however you spell it!]

- Sonatina for Clarinet & Piano - Malcolm Arnold

- Brahms Quintet for Clarinet and Strings Op. 115 - THIS PIECE SOUNDS GORGEOUS! all i need is a viola player, that is gooood!!!!

has any past music students done these pieces???

Ok I need Help!!!
I really want to do the song "So Much Better" from Legally Blonde but I'm worried because you are meant to make orgasm noises in it? Should I do it anyway, I mean, will the judges mark down for provocativeness?

haha i love that song! and i love that musical! no personally i think that if you can pull off the song, then that just shows you have character as well as talent :) go for it.. its a great song... nail the last note and you win em over!

as for me, im the 1 and only extension student at my school so practising is a breeze, all my lessons are one on one with my accompanimest... :) im a dramatic coloratura soprano.
im doing definately
1. The Girl in 14G - Kristin Chenoweth (very very hard but i hope i can nail it!)
2. I know that my redeemer Liveth - Messiah by Handel (also a tricky one)
3. Someone Special - Always the Musical (noone in the world will know this one)
4. Pie Jesu - Andrew Lloyd Webber (everyone in the world knows this one!)
5. some sort of ensemble piece :p
6.NO IDEA!!!

good luck all u guys! music is really what makes the world go round, and you guys are the spinners! (crap analogy but i go by it!)
