I find the practice of NSW HSC in providing the suggested substitution for integration makes this part of 3U really wimpish.

They didn't give the substitution for one question last year in the 3u paper. That really really surprised me.

yer same, it was Q1 aswell i believe. Usually very very straight forward, no tricks.

Alot of poorer MX1 students would have seen the Sin^2x and straight away gone:
Cos2x=1-2sin^2x
...
sin^2x=1/2(1-cos2x) etc etc

When do the BOS notes for 2008 come out?

But the textbook's solution says -sqrt(1-t^2)+c. This is from the fitzpatrick 3-u book btw.
