I'd much prefer to be on a contract. But apparently they can't put me one one because my shifts are all over the place.
yeah, try telling that to my store. Pretty much all our part-timers (and some full-timers) get different shifts everyweek. We just have to sign a new contract every week (each contract has "1 week only" written on it). I'm sure it's a headache for our payroll clerk, but that's the way it works at our store. I mean, most of us don't really NEED to have the same shifts every week.

I have a question (probably for townie) but is it possible to work a second job in the Woolworths group without incurring overtime penalties? Say I work 38 hours at Woolies, but if I want a second job at BWS for example, is that possible to work 15-20 hours there as well? I figure no since I'd have the same payroll number?

Edit, FYI: BWS is Qld's standalone liquor (since liquor isn't legally allowed in supermarkets here)

Official Company Policy forbids working more than 38 hours in more than 1 company within the woolworths group.

Lame.. it'd be so easy to just to go over to BWS... I already know how to use wowpos and everything. Is it possible to say I want to waive my right to max 38 hours? Is that what an 'exempt' employee is? Oh well guess I'll just get a job somewhere else, lol.

Oh the IT lady that came tonight when they started ripping out our old registers told me that thr screensavers will be removed in the next couple of days as a "national decision" had been made because of all the complaints and delays haha!

THANK GOD for that! So I can stop calling up the help desk every shift to complain!
THe other night we couldn't get one of the draws out for close because the screen wouldn't respond, so we had to use the manual key and that didn't work! Finally after about an hour (seriously) and just before midnight it responded and we got it out!

Well done on 300 btw!

Ah, I had a similar weird-freaky thing happen with a staffmember at my store.
She started going on about some posts I'd made which had come up when she's searched "Woolworths" in google.... :(

Just to confirm, Woolies is getting a new agreement soon, hence why there wasn't a recent pay rise. Not sure if you guys knew and stuff, I'm new to this thread. I was speaking to a union rep today.

Thanks

Do you know if its the new national one? If so it would suck, because by the sounds of it everyone else is getting a massive rise, and WA is getting like 3c.

Good decision... it is the most annoying thing ever! I just don't understand why when they update a system we get problems with the old things that used to work fine!?

Also... a lot of staff keep asking me where the reduced to clear button is! And I'm like: "It's gone!" lol

Surely you'd think screensavers would be such a non-issue.. obviously there's a firmware issue that can't be rectified easily :S

I don't mind them taking away RTC, it's too easily abused. The only problem is if your store doesn't keep on top of orders for printable labels as we ran out of labels on Thursday and let me tell you now how ANNOYING it is running back and forward RTC hundreds of meat/produce items. Very, lol. We got 60 rolls today though, thank god.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was a temporary issue (that we ran out of RTC rolls). But our deli and seafood dept doesn't use them at all. This is more frustrating.

Hey, have any checkout people had to ask for ID for customers buying pure vanilla essence? My mother was ID checked for buying it a while ago in Woolies because it has alcohol in it and there were cases of underaged people buying it and attempting to get drunk of it. Is that a normal policy? The next time she bought it she went through SS and wasn't ID checked...

The new Glenorie store is taking shape, can start to see shelving and products being shipped in. Still haven't seen any external positions advertised besides produce and bakery, apparently a lot of people in the area who already work for Woolies are trying to transfer across so they're closer to home...hope there's some spots left for me :(

Well the rf units can process their deli labels so I'd be telling your SSM to get on to them... they don't want anyone using manual RTCs anymore. The only problem is we've only got 4 printers in the store so there's a bit of a fight for them! We just got 2 new RF guns because everyone fought for them too (and then someone dropped one and smashed the screen!)
