i was just wondering if anyone had notes or anything to do with 'daddy' by sylvia plath as im using it as related text for ted hughes.

Off the top of my head...these are just techniques, you need to find meanings for them.


Use of rhyme mimicking a nursery rhyme/children's song

Supernatural imagery

Colour symbolism

Apostrophe (talking directly to her father)

I'd try not to- that's an english extenstion 1 text- markers might think you're using it for both. If you do, you could mention the allusions to sin and war, the juxtaposition of the child's world and that of the adult world of violence, double meanings, and the feminine contrasted with the masochistic "rack and the screw".

Really? We've been told that we should use either that, or Whiteness I remember as one of our related texts... And basically by all advanced English teachers at my school...

I actually wanted to use it too for the HSC cos we analysed it in class, but then I found out it was on the Ext. 1 list. I'm still stuck for a second related text :cry:
