Very true. I did German during the 1st & 2nd semester of uni last year. In high school you definitely get a lot more support and time to really understand things and teachers have much more patience... at uni, you learn something, you might not understand it straight away but they may move on anyway. You'll find that in these situations, you'll just have to use independent study time to figure things out. Lastly, in many cases, you will be expected to have memorise a lot of grammar and vocab even though you've just learned the topic 1-2 days ago.

PS. oh-em-gee, i see you're doing LATN1600 - Introductory Latin 1? Note: Although it's an intro class, they mix it with intermediate students so it's a bit difficult as half the class and the tutor will be conversing in a much more higher level of Latin than you will probably know. My friend did it last year and dropped out cause of that. But then again.. that was last year's LATN1600.. maybe things will change ..? :S

Note: Although it's an intro class, they mix it with intermediate students so it's a bit difficult as half the class and the tutor will be conversing in a much more higher level of Latin than you will probably know. I think this has got misinterpreted somewhere along the line. LATN1600 is combined with LATN2620 (for 2nd or 3rd-year undergrads) and LATN7001 (for postgrads). This allows people who are looking at doing honours or postgrad in ancient history to get the necessary ancient language skills even if they didn't do introductory latin in first year - but it's the same course and everyone covers the same material. So LATN1600 includes people who have been at uni for a few years, yes, but everyone in it is still a beginner - no one starts the unit with any substantial latin knowledge.

I see. I think my friend was confused and thought the older people were intermediate latin students, when they were probably just the 2nd/3rd year or honors people you were talking about.
