Okie Doke, I think we get the point that some people don't agree with Shadowdudes way of using the Guide as a resource to chose his University. Who is to say that World Rankings thanks to Google should be allowed to be taken into account in choosing a Uni, and consulting the guide isn't?

Lol, now you're backtracking you little weasel. Giving something context doesn't mean there isn't another purpose for its inclusion, you idiot. And wtf is with the derp derp? Go ingest some rat posion you piece of shit.
You don't know what 'derp derp' is? Learn your internet memes. Probably do that after you learn how to quote properly, and speak properly too. That also includes spelling because to my recollection 'posion' isn't even a word.

FreeWorld, those top uni rankings rank universities on things like research output or how many scholars from that university have gone on to be recognised for something. I don't see how these rankings have anything to do with undergraduate study at all. The GUG ranks universities on things that matter to undergrad students like teaching quality, overall satisfaction, graduate salaries, positive graduate outcomes, etc.

iSplicer, if people were thinking that - then they too have a very selective memory.
Shadowdude guide:

Effort in Rationalising his Shit: 3 stars
Moronic State: 5 stars
Sef-satisfaction: 4 stars
Quality: 0 stars
Potential for positive Outcome: 1 star

In conclusion, you're an idiot. Hope that helps future posters.

Yes, because the number of scholars a university has that are internationally recognised or the amount of research they do totally corresponds with how good a learning environment a university will be. I like your logic, fuckit1991. /sarcasm

Ah, I haven't memorised all the internet memes out there. Boo hoo. And I'm sure you feel real big after pointing out a spelling mistake. Good on ya, champ!

Okay, seriously guys? Do you think this thread needs a page and a bit dedicated to your back and forth bickering? You both have conflicting opinions, it happens.

I never said or implied that that was the case. Go improve your comprehension, you twit.

It's not misleading, iSplicer... it's government information. Official government information. Say what you want, but it's true. You can even check the DEEWR data yourself. Who is to say the government information is wrong?

I suppose I just have a lot of trust when it comes to authorities and what they tell me?

You quoted my post in which I said that with this:

So LOL to you sir, because yet again you have showed your ineptitude to know how to quote posts.

And Sammy, we're debating. In a civil fashion. Except fuckit1991 that is, he has to use swear words to boost his ego and his arguments. Which doesn't do much actually. Actually decreases the level of his argument.

You're good at quoting posts! Gosh, you actually do have some use. Hooray!

Man, IF ONLY I had read the guide on quoting forum posts!

And relax dude, I think you realise what a moron you were and it's okay to concede that.

There is no guide, fuckit1991 - because a 12 year old can do it easily.

Now if you all don't mind, I'm going to sleep. Nighty night Sammy2011 and iSplicer!

Usyd:
1. Hot girls
2. Perfect location however ugly buildings compared to unsw.

Unsw:
1. Shit location
2. Fobby asians --> enough said.

And I couldn't careless about reputation for certain courses because uni for me is about socialising and having fun with hot chicks.

Fine, go at it. I just think its a little silly to go 'debating' over what is essentially the same argument: That there are different resources available in order to help in choosing a Uni. One is a guide, and one is world rankings.

If you're passionate about Law I'm sure you'll do well at either uni. I'm pretty sure with something like this, because they seem pretty equal, it's more how much you put into it and what extra experience you have that will look impressive for future employers, rather than the name of the uni.

Also, those guides are useful but as other people have said, you need to combine their information with your own research and impressions of the uni.

Oh and edit:

I think maybe people here are arguing so vehemently for their chosen university to justify their decision to themselves. Let's face it, we're all sort of unsure at the moment and we have no experience to know if we chose the right one. There's no point bagging out other universities.
Be civil, children!

Well they have a point, Shadowdude... Just go back to HSC sciences and think about reproducibility (or reliability) of information. Any other sources that suggest the same/similar rating for quality of education, etc? Well it's all good that it's be govt, sounds much better than ones by random people, but still you need to be aware that they may have flaws too. I reckon it's much better to ask students in person (not the ones from O-week coz then you'll not have a good random sample of students).

FreeWorld, there are hot chicks at UNSW as well. Though I admit it's pretty obscure in its location.

fuckit1991, concede? No, that's called finality. I compared you successfully to a 12 year old. So it's end of debate, and you lose.

studyfreak, I realise the government's information will have flaws - but it's perhaps the best thing we have. Students are asked in person by the CEQ - though admittedly only 200 or so respond per course - 200 is still a decent sample size (for the CEQ) and that may be the good random sample of students. And for the quality of education, I found that most of the world rankings I looked at used things that I thought were unneeded in swaying me to go to a particular university.

In hindsight, now that the preference change is over - I'm happy with the amount of research I did because I believe I exhausted most of what I could have done research-wise anyway, save calling them and actually talking to them - because I'm not too good at that =P
