I'm a fairly skinny guy, but I'm starting to grow a gut. I'm growing out of a lot of my pants (was size 28 earlier this year, now a 30-32). Tips?

Fuck, I wish I was a 32. How much do you actually weigh?
62kg. I'm about 178cm tall the last time I checked.

This means my BMI is considered underweight by a bit.. I'm skinny fat :(

Aw shit, man, you must be like a rake... with a gut.

yeh BMI tells me I'm overweight. I should probs loose a few kilos.

I'm about 90kg and 6 foot 1, although my bmi would still be considered a normal weight if I were 62kg. I struggle to see me being 62 kg's healthy...

Back to the question, quit drinking beer, or cider. They fuck you up. And run.

waist measurement?

by the sounds of things, you're a lanky hipster whose stomach has formed the slightest softness to it instead of being completely hollow.

Just try and do weights and cardio 5 times a week. When doing weights, try and focus on compound movements (ie; squats, dead lifts). Eat 5-6 small, healthy meals a day, and watch your carb intake (especially your simple carbs). You'll lose it in no time.
this in a nutshell

Don't bother with paying attention to weight or BMI or any retarded horseshit like that. Weight only matters if you're an athlete competing in sports that are contained in weight divisions and BMI doesn't work if you are one.

Basically, eat better (don't eat silly biscuits and plastic cheese because you're bored), move more. Do situps and pushups as well as any back and leg exercises you can do with your bodyweight. (if you lack weights or the time/ability to travel/funds to go to a gym.) Don't exercise for longer than an hour and you should start to see results within a month.

This is all assuming you're still interested in advice.

Also: sleep 7+ hours a night and drink plenty of water.

poo daily too.

Don't have too much carbs because they can make you bloated.
