Accelerated students compare with which cohort? (2 Viewers)

which cohort do they get ranked with? are they ranked with the year 12s that do the exams that same year? if so how does the ATAR work out? curious : ) because some people may only do 1 -02 subjects one year then the rest, the next year

Interesting, but I presume their mark will be scaled against that years batch and then that scaled mark will be considered with their other subjects the next year and form an Atar.

Thus the difficulty is taken into account in the mark. Once you have your marks, which have been alinged to suit the difficulty of the test, your atar is made.

The aligning and scaling allows for each years marks to be compared on the same scale (I think...)

I did accelerated maths and ext 1 maths in 2010, and all of my marks were compared with the year 12s of 2010.

I got 96/100 and 47/50 on them, so I'm pretty happy that I dont have to repeat them

Since I'm doing ext 2 maths, my ext 1 maths mark will be kept the same, except it will be changed to be out of 100 (94/100).

but ... wouldn't that not GIVE a true ATAR ranking of the chort of yr 12s.... which is for (2011) the year 7 cohort of 2006. ATAR is a rank out of ur yr 7 cohort.

Yes but your marks are aligned & scaled (I think, I don't really know the whole process) in the year you sit the exam in as that is the cohort you are competing against.

i know ppl who doesnt go to selective school and still has an accelerated program in their school.

I don't go to a selective high school, but I do go to a govt. school, & I do a subject accelerated.

Of course, I had friends who repeated Math extension 2 after being accelerated in it.

my dad got told that his teacher could arrange for him to go to uni when he was 8 1/2. Thankfully he said no.

Accelerated students are just advanced. Eventually they will reach their brick wall and everyone will catch up with them.

Their advancement comes at a high development cost.

Some accelerated students will continue to be absolutely awesome and will become pioneers but that percentage is VERY VERY slim.

The thing with repeating the subject after being accelerated is, if you do worse in the second year, you have to keep that mark :\

That risk, and the fact that I get more frees and one less subject to worry about made my mind set to not repeating lol :S
