At the start of Preliminary I was doing way too much work. After school, homework and study until midnight and almost the whole of the weekend. Just pace yourself. Be "consistent".

Don't over do it by studying every single night. Just do your homework and assignments and study if you've got a test.

Doing sport outside of school might help by giving you a break and something else to do.

It's really not hard. Do as much work as you need to. No more, no less.

All the knowledge (except for maths) aren't really relevant

Well how often/ hard are you studying now?
Do you have any extracurricular activities?
Do you go out often or only on special occasions?

The main goal is to find a balance between your studies and social life.
Give yourself some time to relax and have fun every now and then - manage your time to allow you to do so without freaking out about assessments and whatnot

If you haven't done so already, now would be the best time to figure out what study techniques are best for you as year 11 does not directly count towards your HSC mark.
The study routines you pick up now are most likely going to be the ones you use throughout year 12 so I suggest you don't slack off simply because you get a 'clean slate' next year

Don't leave anything til the last minute. This is a veerryyy bad habit. Staying up late or pulling an all-nighter to finish an assignment, or study for an exam is not necessarily the best way to go. Start working on assignments ASAP so you can get them over and done with. This will give you time to adjust/ improve upon a few things, start early on another assignment, or relax and treat yourself for your efforts.

A healthy body means a healthy mind. Don't neglect your general well-being when studying for the HSC as this may also affect your concentration and..well, your ability to study in general.. and sleep! don't stay up too late when studying 'cause I'm sure we all know that it's pretty hard to concentrate when your half asleep haha

So basically,
- It's all about balance.
- Treat yourself after accomplishing something or do whatever you do to keep you motivated
- Take breaks between study sessions (but not too long or else you may find it difficult to get focused again. It's hard to say since I don't know how you study)
- Get up and go out for a walk/ jog around the block. Stay active.
- Get together with friends and just have fun! It is possible to be educated and social at the same time :)
- Start early, finish early. Don't leave things til the last minute. Starting early will enable you to move through the work at a comfortable pace without having to rush through it all and risk losing a few easy marks.
- Manage your time to allow you live your life and if you find yourself becoming bored of whatever routine you're in, do something to break it. Anything.

this is pretty true.

to use the analogy of an athlete, resting is equally important to training. there is no use training when your muscles haven't even healed fully from its last session, and ending up tearing all your muscles and being forced to take a few weeks downtime.

This. Never stick with one thing for too long. Variety is the key.

I wish I saw this thread earlier. I'm probably not going to sleep for two nights, lol.
I have an assignment due tomorrow and two due on Tuesday which I have barely started. I'm stressing like no tomorrow. Don't be like me. I'm the epitome of what not to do in life :p

lol ohk, good luck with finishing those assignments though :)
do you work better under pressure?
Thank you :]
Umm... depends. If I feel too pressure I break down and don't do anything. If it's an acceptable amount of pressure, I work better. If there was no pressure, i'd procrastinate and do nothing. LOL. I have a 200+ page book to read and write on, which i've read 38 pages of, and i'm on bos. What's wrong with me?

I am currently doing my PIP on "HSC STRESS" and Burn Out is one of my questions in my survey. Most students and ex-students agree that most students BURN OUT before their HSC because they dont pace themselves or control their stress or exercise. As I am doing my HSC this year I am living it at the moment and it is hard juggling life/work and studying too. I am trying to study for this weeks 1/2 yearlys, work and collect surveys to hand in for the first part of my PIP. So guys if you have done your HSC and you are MALE could you please complete my quick 10-Question Survey! (I have already enough Females but if you want to do the survey I find everyones opinion important) The survey Link is - http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QFM76GB - Thanx heaps and good luck everyone!!!!!

motivation. if you want to succeed really bad, you won't burn out. you may stress heaps, but if you organise your time you will cope. you mighten have time for other activities like in junior school, but take time to do something else once in a while. i play pool. :D
