ANU is a highly regarded research uni. But it certainly is not noted for its Engineering; not even research Engg. If you ask 100 people in the know, 0 of them would recommend ANU for Engg. You go to a Uni for the quality of its course not the air. Of course UNSW campus is pretty crap.

Stairs are good though! Exercise and whatnot.

I'm sure there are other benefits none of us have fathomed yet - including this one: "To escape a Matty G - go up stairs".

Yes, but 99.99999% of students from here won't make it over there. It's like telling your girlfriend to not bother dressing up nicely to go to the formal because she doesn't look as good as some of those celebrities or girls in beauty pageants.

So can we keep our discussion in-house, that is - to universities in NSW, mostly? Since that's what most of us here are going to experience?

In Australia, the University of Melbourne is the highest ranked school for the subject (1st nationally and 29th internationally), followed by UNSW (33rd globally), U of Sydney (40th), ANU (42nd), Monash (50th), U of Queensland (61st), RMIT (97th). A total of 7 Australian universities are placed within the global top 100 list.

I'm doing Software, so if you've done HS1917, you're already more accomplished than I am in my degree. That's a tad embarrassing.
Did it. Not necessarily well :p

Also does ANU offer B Eng?
haha it'd be quite funny if I started this thread without seeing whether ANU even has Engo!
ANU has a B Eng and a B Eng(R&D) :)

Which rankings have you used?
http://www.australian-universities.com/ratings/engineering-schools-rankings/ is a tad different.

Either way, I don't really weigh rankings too much...

ANU only has software engineering in B engineering IIRC (double check, yourself)

The ANU Engineering program is also underscored by technological trends that cut across the boundaries that typically exist between the traditional disciplines of engineering. These trends are reflected by the engineering majors. They provide students with an opportunity to specialise in an area of strength or interest. The majors also reflect the research activity in the School of Engineering and are, therefore, an opportunity to engage with the cutting-edge areas that contribute to ANU's reputation for research-intensive education. The engineering majors currently offered are in the areas of:

electronic and communication systems
manufacturing and management systems
mechanical and materialsystems
mechatronic systems
renewable energysystems
