Because you called your thread, "actuarial studies" im assuming actuarial is your goal...

advanced maths with actuarial

pros:
- very focused and heavily mathematical they compliment each other to an extent
- lets you complete actuarial pt2s during your undergraduate years if you are smart with your subject selection

cons:
- guaranteed a shit timetable
- requires a fair bit of overloading if you want to get your actuarial pt1s and 2s.
- cant do another commerce major
- not flexible with your subjects
- fairly limited options once you graduate
- lack of females (though this could be a pro, if you swing that way)

An alternative is

B.com/B.eco

Pros:
- lets you triple major (finance, actuarial, some eco major)
- lets you do actuarial pt 2s, (only need to overload 1 subject)
- decent timetables
- subjects compliment each other fairly well
- more opportunities upon graduation
- more flexible subjects/study methods

cons:
- every course will have class participation marks
- a lot of them will have group assignments (only if you get 3 fobs)

if you want to do maths with actuarial, pair it with a regular B.Sc with a math major; don't do advanced maths.

Downsides of Adv. maths:
- You must do an honors year in maths; this isn't everyone's cup of tea
- You must do SCIF; this course is well known to be boring, irrelevant, and also drags WAMs down
Upside of Adv maths:
- You get an extra word in front of your degree at the end

The advanced maths degree is really just a marketing exercise by the Faculty of Science; you don't get access to any extra courses compared to a regular maths degree. In addition, if you do a regular maths degree, you have the interesting option of being able to get a triple major (Actuarial, maths and stats); this is the only triple major that is possible with the Comm/Sci pairing (it was negotiated by the ASB and the School of maths a long time ago).

You also don't need to overload to get part 2s: here is a recommended study plan:

any B commerce degree will give you the flexibility to major in other business disciplines if actuarial does not float your boat.

its shit how they have changed it but you can still be eligible for 3 majors

8 for finance
8 for actuarial
10 for econometrics
2 for gen ed
4 more subjects to meet your compulsory/flexible cores (accounting 1a 1b, management, economic analysis)

subjects will be equivalent, and it should work out lol.

srsly if u want to do actuarial, why dont u just do a single degree in commerce majoring in fins/actl

it is the smartest way to get a D/HD WAM when u apply for internships/grad jobs. 3rd yr subjects tend to be the hardest, but if ur just doing a straight comm degree, those marks wont be included when u submit ur grad applications. Hell 2nd yr subject marks wont even be included when u do ur intern apps. And it is very easy to HD WAM 1st yr.

3rd year actuarial courses are actually easier than 2nd year because some of them are quite repetitive in a way..
and 3rd year courses more relate to real world which are easier to understand..

If you want to do something inter-relate between actl and fins, I strongly suggest you to do FINS3635 and FINS3636
you will find them very easy if you have gone through some actl courses..
