Like, I know it's really beneficial to draft up essays and give it to your teacher to mark, but how do you find the motivation to do so? How do you overcome that boredom and yearning to study something else?

In all seriousness, the hardest thing is getting started. But I guess once you start, even if you write a few lines you will go into a fluent motion.

Don't think about like "I need to write one essay in this period of time". Rather I will finish paragraph by paragraph.

The reasons I can think of which students don't get the motivation to start is:

- They haven't read the material.

- They have never written before or not much.

- They don't know how to start an essay.

- They have insufficient arguments.

Most of the time, it's because I don't know how to word things. I doubt myself so much when I do write it, and it feels really crap. And mostly because my argument isn't as solid.

Read essays with a similar question and try make yours better than theirs. Would be good if it was a Band 6 response too, because you have the thought in your mind "Shit mang, if this guy got band 6 i'll probably get one too"

Good. Without struggle there is no progress. You are not handing it in to BOS or anything. It's a practice run to fix up your mistakes and minimise any imperfections which will in turn maximise your HSC performance in English.

Just know what you are going to write about. Ask the teacher for help and they should be able to tell you if your thesis/argument is strong enough
For wording of the essay just use thesaurus.com, and then read it aloud to hear what it sounds like.

Alright! Here's one simple tip

Structure your paragraphs in this manner
Intro:
1. immediately RESPOND to the question - formulate a thesis (practice writing only thesis statements for different question, so you can apply them to any question)
2. Define Belonging in relation to your text or Define any other concept, theory... For Frankenstein - briefly outline the context
3. Introduce texts and briefly outline how they reflect belonging
4. Mention themes or concepts you will be discussing (for e.g. The themes are......"

Body paragraphs:

Orientation (for e.g. In Herrick's free-verse prose novel, ....)
I dea (Same as statement - Belonging is linked to...)
F eature ( techniques - you need to collect a list of techniques - I have a folder just dedicated to different types of techniques: cinematogrpahy, poetic, literary etc..)
E vidence (quote - find one that is the BEST example - not just any - judiciously select your quotes)
E ffect (How does this convey ideas about belonging for example,... what aspect of belonging)
L ink (Link it back to the question and your thesis. e.g. Therefore,.... )

Just follow OIFEEL and you'll be fine! Provides essays with a more coherent and fluid structure

I think it would be best if you remove all distractions in your house for starters in order to get your brain constantly thinking without being disrupted. After this, I recommend asking yourself 'Why am I really doing this?' Because only by doing so, do you realise that it is compulsory, but also bear in mind, education as I've mentioned in numerous posts is priceless.

Education and learning is fun because we can add on to our existing knowledge and it also interests us. HSC isn't all about fulfilling the dot points and modules, they're trying to allow you to expand on your knowledge and to appreciate the subjects with which they offer. I know it may be difficult to comprehend the fact that English is actually fun, but you'll have to convince yourself that you're learning, not just getting marks because that's not the right way to approach HSC. View the HSC in a more positive and friendly manner and I wish you luck with your English work.
