I finished HSC last year with an ATAR that allowed me to do pretty much anything (99.90).
I started Veterinary Science at Sydney Uni this year but hated it and withdrew.

Since then I have been researching lots of courses, including those available mid-year, but just don't know what I would like/be good at/enjoy.
My favourite subjects last year were Ancient History, Maths (3U/4U), English and Chemistry.

I have absolutely no idea what to do!
Even with a gap year and time to think about it I'm not sure it would help.

I want to do a course with reasonable contact hours (unlike vet sci), good work load, interesting content, good job prospects-easy to get a job, good salary, good working hours and high demand
I would like to go to UNSW or Sydney Uni-should I try a course mid-year to see if I like it?

Any suggestions?
Thanks :)

What were the contact hours for veterinary science?

What you've described sounds like Engineering. Maybe you could do Materials Science & Engineering or Chemical Engineering, if you don't like Physics too much. As with History/English, you could combine it with Arts (yes, I know...), but it could keep you engaged when Engineering get's too much or boring or the contact hours are eating you up.

Congratulations on your ATAR, that is a fantastic achievement. Since you enjoy maths, actuarial studies could be an option.

While Vet Science is a great course, I didn't feel I had much interest in it, which made the long hours and everything else seem unbearable.

I've considered Engineering, but didn't do HSC physics and don't know too much about the courses. While I enjoyed 4U maths, the work was pretty intense, and I can imagine that university maths would escalate further!

I've been thinking about something health-science related: physiotherapy, speech pathology etc. but am still not sure

If you got 99.90 and did 4U then you'll super-smash uni maths and probably even get bored (physics is irrelevant), but like 90% of these threads everyone says "engineering" so there's that

Are you still a student at the university? Right now you might attempt to get "work experience"/volunteer work in things that might interest you and do your research. Something like Allied health could have good contact hours, content and job prospects right now but maybe not as much salary later (or maybe not idk), go educate yourself

Rather than thinking about good job prospects etc etc, why don't you consider what you like? What do you enjoy doing? Do you like science? writing? maths? And then work out a course/career path from there.

However, if I must recommend a course that has good job prospects it would be engineering or dentistry.

so you want a job...that's basically...perfect? I.e. you get hired straight out of uni, get paid 200k for 20 hours work and that's that.

Fuck you're naive. You might have 99.9, but 0 life perspective. If such a job existed, don't you think EVERYONE would do it?

Figure out what you like, do it, and be content with the reality that you're not any more special than a majority of people, and the big bad world ain't easy.

I am saying.

Uni isn't for everyone, and you Dont have to go to uni if you don't wan to.

I.e since op doesn't know what we wants to study, I am suggesting he could look outside of uni

OP got 99.9 atar, im pretty sure they're not gonna throw that away, to do something outside of uni.
@op, perhaps sit the umat test and get into dentistry, medicine?
