An elected Coalition government will increase the GST : John Hewson
The former leader of the Liberal Party, John Hewson has told the voting public that an Abbott government will increase the GST to 20 per cent and broaden the base of the GST. Such a measure will increase funding to the state governments by $70 billion a year. Hewson has said Australians must get used to a higher taxing future under a Coalition government to avoid European style debt crisis.
Henson was a joke who lost the unloseable election. Believe me the Coalition won't be taking advice from this clown.

That GST scare campaign has to be one of the most desperate strategies i've seen in politics. It's just so devoid of facts and substance. A straw man if there ever was one.

how do you feel about the scare campaign against the carbon tax
Generous compensation given out after campaign and massive public outcry. Now we can all see the truth with Greens saying European ETS going up to $50 before implementation. And revised figures are saying $12 per tonne when current price is around $5. How can we trust these clowns with anything?

The main point of the campaign to stop the carbon tax was that the government did not have a mandate. There's your so called scare campaign. Whyalla without compensation might as well be wiped out.

Most well informed, balanced people have known since the early 2000's that the Howard era was a wasted era you only have to look at the $320 billion dollars wasted and pork barrelled between 04 and 07 by Howard. All well informed know that whoever was elected in 2007 would have a structural deficit to deal with. It is only the dishonest who claim otherwise.

Ugh, there's no such thing as a mandate in the way out system works IMHO (except of course a mandate to govern)

Also, kinda scary that 6% of Canberra working population could be unemployed soon (though god forbid the carbon/ mining tax cost a single job)

government jobs are pretty underpaid for the amount of skillset involved. especially for DFAT staff.

Why have a carbon tax if youre gonna have a carbon compensation? Kinda defeats the whole purpose.

Don't know what the big fuss about a budget deficit is all about, our economy is doing fine and we are able to take a hit. If you want to cut deficit gut inefficient areas of centrelink eg middle class welfare. Half of our government budget goes into welfare.

if you adjust for quality of life, the only APS positions that might be considered to be underpaid are senior management positions.

Uh, no, of course not, what a stupid argument. They're not the same thing. The public sector jobs you're crying about exist because of political decree, not in response to the demand of individuals in the market. I'm not saying all the public jobs at risk are entirely without value, but they're absolutely NOT the same as private sector jobs.

Look at what you're saying,we have a huge deifcit whilst our economy is doing fine. What are things going to be like when the economy inevitably falters? How much more politically difficult is it going to be to make tough cuts when the economy's in worse shape and when people are even more accustomed to their government beenfits?

Federal Opposition Leader plays politics with NDIS aided by the Western Aust Coalition government.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme provides peace of mind to all Australians including those people with a disability and those who might get a disability in the future. We do not need a carping federal Opposition. The Coalition state government in Western Australia is playing politics and has not been forthcoming to the table to discuss their concerns. Only a Labor federal government can deliver the NDIS in the spirit of key Labor reforms like Medicare, the Educational Access Scheme and the introduction of the pension system. Help those people with a disability we must. Help those with a disability we will. Vote 1.Labor 2. Greens and Liberals last.

I'm not crying about the jobs, I object to the cuts for a different reason than the mere fact that they are cuts. What I object to is that there is an outcry why 5 people loose their jobs because of X but nah 12,000 public service jobs are ok. Either man up and say those 5 job loses were also necessary and don't pander to daily telegraph outrage or stfu
