john howard: 'GST would never become part of Liberal Party policy' ??? welcome to the real world buddy, if you put your preferred party up on a pedestal, you're going to cop a mouthful of disappointment. politicians lie, what can ya do? to suggest it isn't a bipartisan issue is laughable.

considering you're doing your hsc in 2013, i'm guessing you didn't get to experience the years of tony pbuh abbott as health minister. he was full of shit too. big surprise.

and how exactly does abbott plan to stop the boats? sending them back into indonesian waters? we already know that the common tactic of boat-people is to sail into australian waters, destroy their engine, take on water and call an SOS - they can't send that boat back to its point of origin. never mind the fact that the indonesians have already said they would not accept these boats and it could potentially cause a diplomatic stir with our nearest neighbour with a population of 240 million. but abbott keeps on just repeating his market-tested talking point of 'we'll stop the boats, kevin rudd/julia gillard are people smugglers best friends'.

i think the thing that disgusts me most about abbott is that he treats the electorate as a whole as a mentally challenged child who can only grasp one-line zingers instead of actual policy discussion.
Whilst I think international relationships are important, F indonesia. They are playing us the fool here by allowing the boats to leave indonesian waters. I bet my left nut that if the Aussie Government decided to not send foreign aid or financial assistance to Indonesia if they didnt accept the turned around boats, Indonesia would shut up. They are pragmatists

Yep that's right Australia you heard it here first

An 17/18 year old recent high schooler has just PROVED that Indonesia are sending boats to Australia for no reason at all whatsoever and thereby we should immediately sever all political ties with them because of a few incredibly insignificant water transports.

Yeah no I am thinking exaggerated in the tens of thousands
Nope. The figure includes every single boat arrival since Rudd dismantled the Pacific Solution. This includes the ones that came under Gillard as well. Boats come everyday , just this week 4 boats came in one day. It's not exaggerated at all. Just check the figures from the Department of Immigration.

I think a lot of people are fed up with the Indonesians. Officials and their navy know this is happening and are doing nothing to stop it. Why should they when these people smugglers are paying bribes so they look the other way. The Indonesian Government doesn't care because it can offload these people to us instead of loitering in their country. The only aid that works with Indonesia are the ones where we parachute Australian engineers and architects to build infrastructure instead of giving it to potentially corrupt officials. Corruption in Indonesian isn't exactly new and numerous examples have been shown.

Lol, you can't have it both ways. If you want Australia to be able to exercise its sovereignty and what not and refuse to accept boats well then guess what? Other sovereign countries are going to exercise theirs and refuse to take them back.

This is why "turning back the boats" is a stupid plan

Two newspapers take on the same story:

Jakarta opens door to tow-backs
JAKARTA has raised the possibility of co-operating with the Coalition in turning asylum-seeker boats back at sea.

Abbott at odds over tow-back policy
Indonesian minister warns federal Opposition over ''unilateral action'' against asylum seekers.

Indonesia at first showed no resistance to the claim of Australia turning the boats back. It wasnt until Rudd started calling it a problem that it has become one.

Okashi is a neo-Nazi in that he advocates cruel, inhumane and toxic policies such as towing the boats back into Indonesian territorial waters. Okashi continues to be a persecution denier. Asylum seekers deserve our compassion. Did Okashi think to conquer the people or that law was larger than life? We will cry out you who have been bullied, tortured, persecuted and bribed. Most international relations people (including Kevin Rudd) I speak to say that turning boats around will result in armed conflict with Indonesia. Okashi is out of his depth when it comes to politics and international relations. He certainly will be better off staying away from this forum.

lol we'd never have an armed conflict with indonesia over asylum seekers, talk about sabre rattling. you should go read up on our anzus treaty, we have a full defensive pact with the US. it's the same reason china was never going to attack japan over those disputed islands.

Coalition would lose election: Nielsen poll.
Opposition leader Tony Abbott has ruled out a power sharing agreement as the opinion polls continue to point to a knife edge election. The Nielsen poll says that Labor could pick up eight seats in Queensland, one in NSW and lose three in Victoria. If an election was held now the Labor party would win 75 seats in its outright and win the election with the support of a Labor Independent MP, Katter's Australia Party MP and Greens MP. This means that Labor will win 78 seats of the 150 seats of the House of Representatives (a majority of three seats). The Nielsen poll predicts that the election is 50-50 to Labor and the Coalition on the 2PP vote but Labor would win the majority of the seats with a power sharing agreement with the minor parties/ Labor Independent.

I didn't advocate coalition policy in turning back the boats. But armed conflict is a bit hyped up. Diplomatic conflict is a possibility though.

In the 2010 federal election Tony Abbott did an amazing job in almost winning the 2010 federal election. Judging from the polling about Malcolm Turnbull being the leader of the Opposition in 2009, many political analysts were predicting the Coalition to lose 30 seats in the federal election. In 2013 many were predicting that Labor would lose at a minimum 20 seats. Now Labor is prima facie on the edge of a famous victory. Rudd is Australia's Comeback kid. I predict that the Labor party will pick up a swing of 2 per cent in the 2013 federal election and get rid of the hung parliament.

Kevin Rudd is set to terminate the carbon tax and replace with an Emissions Trading Scheme. The carbon price will be reduced from $30 a tonne of pollution in 2015 to $6 a tonne of pollution from July 2014. Mr Rudd is a populist and listens to the wishes of the Australian people. Rudd has outlined savings of almost $4 billion to offset the $4 billion hit to government revenue. Environmental protection is on the chopping block. Rudd has proudly affirmed that economic growth is a better priority than environmental protection. I fully support what Rudd is doing.
