Re: The p00n thread

I didn't even memorise those...

(yes, it's surprising coming from me even :haha:)
wut

how did you do the questions that require complex conjugates lol

i literally don't even know my conjugates hahaha

Well conjugate z = x-iy so just solve it like that

depends what kind of questions? It's more important to know how to prove the conjugate relationships than memorise..that's what my tutors and stuff told me so I guess if you do a lot of q's you can probably recognise them easier and don't need to memorise :p

if i ever needed them, I think i derived most of them. I guess I should say ''I didn't even memorise those really...''

I swear I rarely needed them during my HSC year.

Re: The p00n thread

Phorn you really don't need to memorise all of them.....

Also yes bowling meat I am keen as a bean.
I'm going to because i don't know them and if questions that require them are asked in an exam then gg to me

Well conjugate z = x-iy so just solve it like that
Wat r u talkin about

Questions like this

I was stuck on that question and realised that you need to know your conjugates lol so now i'm going to memorise them

You don't really have to remember those properties. Also, a lot of them are pretty intuitive anyway.
Lol wat

How are they intuitive

fk so should i memorise them

Re: The p00n thread

No.. The only one that's mildly useful is zzbar=x squared plus y squared

Alright so whats useful and what's not useful so I can memorise the useful ones hahahah

Nah too much effort. Just let z=x+iy and conjugate z=x-iy then solve them how you usually would if they were numbers and they give you the same results as the stuff on the sheet.

m9, don't memorise them. after you familiarise yourself with complex numbers, some of them will feel "intuitive" i.e. they'll make sense to you even though you haven't "proved" them to yourself. the ones that don't feel intuitive, you'll probably be asked to prove those identities before doing a question that requires them.

Re: The p00n thread

Prove each one and you'll see how intuitive they actually are.
Okay so for example z + z(bar) = 2Re(z)

let z = x + iy and z(bar) = x - iy

so z + z(bar) = x + iy + x - iy = 2x = 2Re(z)

i don't see/get what you mean by intuitive there

Well a conjugate is just when the imaginary part is the opposite sign. Isn't it fairly intuitive then that the imaginary parts should cancel out and you are left with the real parts adding together?

as in even if you don't know the property itself you can work it out if a question you come across requires it

i. Find the least positive integer k such that cos(4pi/7) + isin(4pi/7) is a solution of z^k = 1
ii. Show that if the complex number w is a solution of z^n = 1, then so is w^m, where m and n are arbitrary integers

wtf i'm trying to look for clues to help me but all i see are confusing letters everywhere
