I think poland, czech repub, slovakia and former east germany is doing pretty well. sure they weren't part of the USSR but they were essentially satellite states.

If you know anyone who lived in the former soviet union or eastern bloc, you'd realize how shit their life is. Ever waited one hour in a queue to get oranges or bread? Ever had an economy that got shitter year after year? ever had neighbours who suddenly "disappeared" because they said something bad about the state? there's a reason the soviet union collapsed.

your getting confused with 90s russia, theres a reason 86% love putin and thats because he fixed russia up when gorbachev and yeltsin destroyed the USSR, and will continue to love him as sanctions are nothing compared to 90s russia(only then will people start revolting again)

While the western economy boomed the soviet union couldn't pull anything. What are modern russian exports? They never made any "high tech" electronics or anything consumer worthy. Ever heard of the Lada?

The era of stagnation is eerily similar to what we are experiencing in the EU and the US... stagnant growth, zero advancement, an increasing population that is below the poverty line, etc...

No were experiencing a global recession that lasted for around 5 years. US economy is booming now the EU is playing catch up. You can't exactly say 0 advancement when we had massive changes in the past 10 years in consumer and technology.

No, we have just had a rehash of the exact same thing time and time again... The age of innovation is over... Yes, we have been dumbed down to that level...

I really wouldn't call the US "recovery" a boom... It's been more of a flicker rather than a "boom"... It has been sluggish, uninspiring and has done nothing to shake off the cobwebs of volatility... (If there is a shock in the EU for instance, they will be back at square one...) You saw it only a couple of weeks ago with the Greek election results and the ECB bailing out Greece (YET AGAIN!)

Pick up a science magazine buddy, and have a read. You may not understand all of it, but it's proof that we're still innovating. Look at a phone that was standard 10 years ago, and look at the standard phone now. Look at a computer that was standard 10 years ago, and look at the standard computer now. Why are they so much better now? Innovation, or advancement in science and technology if you'd rather hear that. Just because you can't see Imperial space ships and Death Stars, it doesn't mean we're not innovating.

On cars alone you can see the massive improvement in technology over the past 10 years.

every single consumer good has improved A LOT in the past 10 years. pretty much everyone can afford a massive plasma tv without breaking the bank (you can pick up a 55" for under 1000). computer parts have made such an improvement it's causing a slow down in sales because people can't justify upgrading anymore when the hardware is outpacing the software.
