Hi everyone,
From next year I will be starting the Preliminary course with the following subjects: Maths Adv, Maths Ext 1, Eng Adv, SOR 1, Bio and Chem.
I’ll also be accelerating in HSC Economics, which will be completed in 2026. I had a few questions and would really appreciate any advice from current students, alumni, or tutors.
  • I am looking for private English tutoring, preferably online, where someone can offer me unlimited marking and feedback services, almost 24/7 comprehensive support and help me hone in on essential stage 6 skills such as essay writing, analysis, reflection writing, etc. My Year 10 English results greatly fluctuated, and I found that feedback at school was often too vague or delayed to help me improve consistently. Because I attend a selective school, I’d especially value recommendations for selective school alumni who performed strongly in English Advanced. If anyone has specific tutor or service recommendations, please do tell.
  • For my other subjects, I'd really appreciate advice on
    • How to use the summer holidays to get ahead without burning out
    • What content or skills are actually worth preparing in advance
    • Study habits or routines that help maintain consistent performance across Year 11 and 12
If you have subject-specific tips, that would be also be extremely helpful.
  • Additionally, I am not planning on going for any bio tutoring but my school's science faculty is extremely strict when marking extended responses, making it difficult to score full marks even when content knowledge is solid. I would appreciate insights into the nature of bio tutoring and whether it's worth the time and effort.
  • And lastly, for HSC Economics are there any newsletters, articles, podcasts, or websites you’d recommend for up-to-date economic issues, statistics, and case studies that are useful for HSC responses? For any HSC Economics alumni, what strategies worked best for notes, practice responses, exams, and revision and any recommended resources or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, any tips would really help! :)

If u want a tutor ask @Hehehe22
She can prob answer all ur other questions to cause she did very similar subjects to u

for not burning out, I think the best thing is to take it easy these hols cause u don’t really have to do much. Make sure u have an organisational system, read ur Eng texts and look at the syllabus or read some stuff in ur textbook ahead of time so that u are familiar with some things. Also if ur are weak in some math concepts then practice that but keeping ur study light is best cause it’s really not necessary to study ahead unless ur really ambitious.

For study habits and routines, make sure u study consistently, make notes along the way and don’t cram info all at once. I feel like throughout year 11 and even first term of year 12 I underestimated how much work I actually had so I would procrastinate and do the bare minimum. But once exams came abt I didn’t have enough time to prepare as throughly as i wanted to. I like to make a study plan or assessment plan where i can allocate enough time to study for each subject or exam so that I don’t have to cram for anything last minute. But obv I never sticked to it so it never worked out. But year 11 is a great time to test the waters and learn from ur mistakes. And don’t beat urself up for doing badly cause it’s just practice and focus on learning from ur mistakes

but if u need any help feel free to ask them

For private English tutoring, if possible, it's recommended that you get a tutor who isn't a new graduate especially because the syllabus is changing

english teachers at selective schools generally hate students getting tutored by people who have just graduated because they don't have a lot of experience
and with the syllabus and texts changing there's honestly very little point because all the previous cohorts probably wouldn't have studied them and wouldn't be as helpful as an actual english teacher would!
