Uh I think the whole point was to deal with loyalty and disloyalty, and how these concepts related to your thesis.
If you mentioned loyalty but then went straight on to your own essay, I highly doubt that will get you above 16.
From our school trial marks its looking like about 75ish is good enough for band 6. Although we mark slightly harder, so probably around 80/105 is enough.

If you did a good essay, one of two things will happen
a) Hardly anybody else will do HP and so you'll stand out for taking the risk and doing it well
b) Lots of dumb people did HP and so you'll stand out for being better than they are.
I can't see it hurting you unless you can't pull off...
If your top 10, surely your own school would give you an estimate ATAR? Plus, surely you have overall rankings you could align to which would be more accurate.
Most of them I know do.

By all means though, take maths or a science. It's a refreshing change from memorising dozens of essay plans.
Besides, what I've found is that I can procrastinate from histories/eco/englishes by doing maths papers.
It's a mini-essay about that statement in comparison to your person.
Just prepare a couple of stock responses, because they can only ask so many - outside forces, history's interpretation ect - and just mention the quote a lot.
It's pretty important to get some links between texts in almost every paragraph. Do it everytime you introduce a new point about a text.
