I do 3-4 hours on a week day and about 5-6 on one day on the weekend. If you can try and spread your study out. e.g. do 2 hours and have an 1/2-1 hour break. Also make sure you get plenty of sleep. countless studies have shown that YOU NEED YOUR SLEEP.

Larger surface area = larger area over which a reaction can take place = quicker rate of reaction. If you keep the amount of something the same and increase it's surface area there is more surface exposed for the reaction to take place.
