People who got >90 in subjects: how did you study?

That's quite true. I think I could've done better had I not freaked out so much.

SBP, PKF, Hallchadwick, Moore Stephens to name a few (can't emphasise enough that ALL of them do take in 1st years). I had an offer from PwC and EY when I applied as a 1st year student. I don't really understand why you think firms aren't interested in hiring a 1st year student but whatever...
  3. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

They all do. You just need to call them & state your case... if they want you they'll ask you to meet them.
  4. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

Does that mean you just finished 1st year?
  5. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

Some decent clothes on your back, perhaps your TFN and bank details... other than that there's no reason to bring anything.
  6. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

I have worked there as part of the CA Achiever program and Eagle will be working there. I'm at EY now. There's no point creating new threads... it would be hard to keep track.
  7. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

It's one of the smaller accounting firms.... nothing wrong with butting in.
  8. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

Yeah it was for CA Achiever... yeah I had no idea who they were before that but a lot of people who used to work there have left since so I guess you'll be meeting a lot of newbies yourself.
  9. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

Yeah they're not very supportive of uni but it is still doable.
  10. InfiniteQ

    Actuarial Studies + Law...worth it?

Yeah it's not. Sooner or later you'll have to pick between the two. It's a waste for the reasons mentioned above. Not speaking so practically though, if you want to do it purely out of interest then go for it.
  11. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

Hey I worked at SBP for a little while... they are very nice :)
  12. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

Oh dude that doesn't mean you can't apply. I called the HR people directly but the other two may have just used the form. If you still want to apply you can... it's never too late cos we're so short staffed! If you joined you could save some of us from doing ridiculous hours :)
  13. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

Eh? Where did you hear that? If they didn't, myself and two other trainees would not have got in otherwise!
  14. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

    Party rocked!
  15. InfiniteQ

    Portfolio Mgmt

He wrote something about reviewing irrelevant responses negatively & everyone assumed that to mean negative marking. It wasn't negatively marked.
  16. InfiniteQ

    Portfolio Mgmt

No it's not a stupid subject... like Grizzly said it's very practical. It's just taught poorly. I would suggest to you to attend every lecture and record them if you can... if not... write down EVERYTHING he says :p
  17. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

49 and 50 are FS floors. Not actuaries. 50 is really not very high considering the location of the building. It is on a slope downwards.
  18. InfiniteQ

    Portfolio Mgmt

You get marked for attendance in the lectures and if you rely on his lecture notes purely you are going to fail. On the other hand if you rely purely on the textbook, you won't do well either. It is really important to understand what he's talking about. No there is no sample exam since we...
  19. InfiniteQ

    Portfolio Mgmt

It's not difficult to understand. It's an interesting subject that is taught poorly. There are many things wrong with the course and it starts with David Feldman (the lecturer). Anyway it's a prereq you can't escape ... glad that's behind me
  20. InfiniteQ

    Ernst & Young

It's sweet how considerate you think they are... haha.
