Yeh I know what you mean, my teacher who was a marker said that it is easy to pick up on someone who is just regurgitating a prepared essay so they don't get marked well even if the essay is fantastic. At least the system is somewhat fair.

Haha yes but I can't understand why you would condemn rote learning if people are preparing the essays themselves and memorising what they've written. Don't see anything wrong with that... if it's your own work obviously you understand it.

To write essays beforehand, memorise them & spit them out in the exam. Obviously you don't just spit out what you prepared, you have to twist it to what the question asks but it is a good way of learning if you are not good at doing the on-the-spot thinking.

Anywhere. Just having the experience on your resume is more important than where you did it.

You're right, to get over 95 in English the rote isn't going to take you there... that's when the imagination, creativity & the "natural ability" comes in. But yes I think we both agree, rote can get you as far as maybe 93, if it's possible to put a number on it hehe.

Yeh I know what you mean but I reckon if you really wanted to, you could make time for it... but it comes down to what the guy is like I suppose. If he's clingy, it couldn't work but if you're on the same level of understanding then it just might!

I disagree with you there. My group created generic essays for all their prescribed text and learnt them by rote. And if you look at the 03 paper, that was all that was necessary they all scored above 90. English CAN be learnt by rote, you just gotta study smart & it's possible. I am not...

Yeah I quite like the way things are right now but I wouldn't mind a nice distraction... it's not practical though. Anyway I just don't wanna be 30 and still single.
