    Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread

Do you even know who I am? :) I think I figured out who you are. This was months ago while I was waiting for a maths tutorial to start. I was leaning over the veranda on the fourth level and you were speaking loudly to some other guy, and then I remembered hearing that exact voice on this you...

Oy vey, more antisemitism? When will the persecution of the chosen people end?

UK police to 'raid' Assange's embassy refuge

Do they even have the audacity to say that there aren't obvious (no pun intended) ulterior motives involved here?

Is cramming an effective study technique?

It doesn't work for me, therefore it's bad for everybody!

    how often do you shower

How long do you swim for? I used to train pretty regularly throughout high school, but two sessions (~4.5km x 2) per day was absolutely brutal. Respect if you can keep to that kind of schedule while doing well at uni. I've got around three hours a day worth of commuting now so sadly my...

    Sydney Tsunami

The wave would have to be on the order of kilometers to reach that far inland.

    Sydney Tsunami

The asteroid which created the Chicxulub crater in Yucatán approximately 65 million years ago would have generated megatsunamis as high as 3 kilometres (1.9 mi); enough to completely inundate even large islands such as Madagascar.

    Sydney Tsunami

Ten users browsing this thread, somebody say something... How long would we have from the (hypothetical) announcement to the impact?

    Sydney Tsunami

Mother of god, I take that back. BRB taking the first train out of sydney. This is a ninety-foot wave by comparison. It's absolutely NOTHING compared to the shape/power of a 100ft+ tsunami. I was visualizing something half that size >.>

    Sydney Tsunami

Any normal tsunami! There's at least fifteen rows of 4+ story buildings between the ocean and myself, as well as a cliff that's several meters high. That should be enough stopping power.
  15. Obvious

    Sydney Tsunami

Even though I live quite close to the beach (~800m), I don't see any tsunami getting past the wall of waterfront high-rise buildings with enough force to even reach my apartment. There may be water in the streets, but I'll be dry.

For those doing science degrees* Considering the fact that we're studying the same subjects we did in high school (math, chemistry, biology and physics), I'd say that there would be at least some correlation...
