    general UNSW chit-chat

Actually no, he released it around 9 hours late, and only after I heckled him via email.

    general UNSW chit-chat

I have my first computing (COMP2911) assignment due at the end of the week :mad1:

    The Metal Thread.

Bulllssshiiiittt excuse. I saw megadeth at gigantour right in the middle of my uni exam period. I went to the exam with a headbanging headache and a hangover and I still did fine.

Have you seen the cat lady?

Why Shouldnt You Work Out Your Whole Body At Once?

I was about to say the same thing.

    Your Fitness Routine

Yeah, we were going way lower than that pic. Why don't you like box squats? I'll give front squats a go during tomorrows session. I remember giving over head squats a go once ... what a killer ...

    Your Fitness Routine

Today my brother and I realised that our squatting form isnt perfect due to some lower back rounding at the bottom of the squat. I was told that it's mostly because I'm squatting too deep - we nearly go arse to grass because I thought parallel was bad. It turns out that you break parallel with...

    Death Metal!!!

    You might like Falkenbach.

    Your Fitness Routine

Sorry, that was meant to be 3x5 :p Actually now its 1x5 since it is getting very tiring as the weights go up. My 1RM is something like 75-80kg .. anything higher and it wont budge unless I use an alternating grip for each hand (and my technique is poor). I've been working out for around 3 weeks...

Question, this is engineering and physics

Its okay, interesting discussion nonetheless :)

Question, this is engineering and physics

I didn't say it was equal to its kinetic energy, I said it was equal to the change in its kinetic energy (in the end its equal to its initial kinetic energy simply because we are assuming the crumple zone is large enough to completely stop the car, ie. final KE is 0) . Also the impact force will...

Question, this is engineering and physics

Its just the work energy principle. In fact I found a source for what I was thinking http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/HBASE/Impulse.html The force during a collision would be variable. Fs would give you the average impact force. Yes, with a long feather, (if its long enough to stop the...

Question, this is engineering and physics

Well thinking about it, I suppose the equation F.s = deltaKE still makes sense. If we assume KE2 = 0 then s would just have to be really really large for like say a crumple zone made out of feathers (otherwise the car would bounce off and KE2 != 0).

Question, this is engineering and physics

Yeah, part of the assumption is that all energy transfer is through work done and not heat. Fair assumption? Maybe not, but then I doubt there is much else choice if you really want to approximate collision forces (without access to a highspeed camera to measure time). Dunno. edit: ignore...

Question, this is engineering and physics

What exactly are you trying to do?

Question, this is engineering and physics

Kinetic energy is mv^2/2 Also why are you using mgSin@-0.2mgCos@ for your collision force?
  18. M

Question, this is engineering and physics

In the ideal case (no slip between the wheel and the ground) no energy is lost due to friction with the ground. The friction losses are mostly in the axle bearings and such (assuming the wheel is mostly inflexible). That's impossible to calculate so stick with experimental data (divide distance...

Who has done the best cover of a song?

Demons and Wizards did a pretty rockin cover of the 'Immigrant Song'.

    Same, I'd say Cliff.
