    Earth's Rotational Velocity Question

The answer is A We aren't provided with the initial velocity or energy, so we don't know it will obtain orbit.

    Scaling system

The scaling system has no inherent calculations or assumptions based on which subject is harder. It treats all 2 Unit subjects the same in the method of calculation. So if all the top students in the year decided to do Hospitatility, then it could be the top scaling subject in that year. As...

    IPT Scaling

Was listening to a mathematician who was talking about UAI scaling and the abnomality of Computing Studies courses. The scaling factor of a subject is based on the average of the other subjects that each student does. Most computing courses it appears the students study hard and go well but...

    What is the difference between-

    Force has the unit N, Force per Unit Length is \frac{F}{l} and unit is Nm^{-1}

    Physics Half Yearly Questions

Re: I screwed up my half yearlies Yes but the angle between the magnetic field and the current carrying sides causing the force is not changing as the coil rotates. It doesn't matter if its a radial field or not. The perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation to the line of action...

    Physics Half Yearly Questions

Re: I screwed up my half yearlies You have the same problem as the first. What part of the coil is parallel to the coil?

    Induction Motors Dotpoint

No there hasn't been and while I wouldn't be surprised if there is a question that compares them with DC motors. I wouldn't expect them to have more than that as they deleted the following in 2002:

    Practical!

Zero error is if the pointer returns exactly to zero each time there is no current. If it doesn't then the readings will always be out by the amount the pointer is away from zero.

    Physics Half Yearly Questions

Re: I screwed up my half yearlies Jm was correct in his diagram, where the magnetic field is perpindicular to the side of the coil, resulting in a maximum force and torque, if the plane of the coil in parallel to the magnetic field as shown in his diagram as well. Rheyn, you are correct when...

    Physics Half Yearly Questions

Re: I screwed up my half yearlies Strange that I'm wrong when I have been in discussions about this and it hasn't occurred and what I said is a quote from the head of the exam committee. Normally they will adapt the guidelines but if it is considered to be a fundamental error then they won't...

    Physics Half Yearly Questions

Re: I screwed up my half yearlies Firstly without the marking criteria it is impossible to say what the mark should be. It may be marked as a band 6 answer, which can explain a zero or if less I would have expected part marks. With that statement you would never obtain 3 in the HSC because...

    Demonstrating the motor effect?

Basing it on the dot point, then if you have come up with an experiment that demonstrates the motor effect it is fine. It doesn't need to be quantitative for the HSC. Last years Q15 is a similar style dotpoint and you had to 1. Have a working method. Clearly showed what you were changing and...

    Demonstrating the motor effect?

If you are asked to describe the investigation in the HSC, then you wouldn't have to have quantitative measurement. However, looking at the section as a whole, you can be asked questions that are quantitative and based around an experiment. Like Q21 which isn't written on the assumption you...

    When do the magnets rotate???

In most large scale AC generators a rotating electromagnet is used to induce currents in the stator. In AC induction motors a rotating magnetic field (not magnet) is used to produce motion.

AC and DC Motors and Generators

AC motors also may be induction motors and they need to be looked at.

What Physics Formulas are not on - Data sheet

I just can't work out why there is the debate over an equation that is on the formula sheet. Yes it is best to know them all but I can't work out why that one specifically has been mentioned.

What it takes for band 6

The skills section of the syllabus is about 20-25% of the HSC and there always in at least one of the mandatory pracs examined. You often tell who hasn't done the prac because they miss a minor detail and it won't work.

What Physics Formulas are not on - Data sheet

The syllabus point is:describe generated potential difference as the rate of change of magnetic flux through a circuit So they can ask you to apply that defintion. It is a formula provided in word form and as such can still be asked to be used.
