    Should Australia be a Republic?

Re: Should Australia be a Republic. I like the idea of the Queen because she is apolitical. There is no fuss about election fraud, and she is a shining beacon of the government and people. If we were to become a republic, I'd like to see Number one, but with name changes for the Australian...

Citizenship - The Citizenship Testing Discussion Paper

I thought freedom of thought was a western value too... I have no problems with people who believe Iran's system of government is superior, or restrictions on religious freedom/women's rights. The fact they think that creates diversity in this world. You don't need to accept every...

    Homosexuality in Australia

Previously Indigenous Australian children were kidnapped from their homes by government officials and given to white families or placed in orphanages to be looked after. This was a law based on principle. This was a law enacted by a government that was voted in by the majority. This law was...

Citizenship - The Citizenship Testing Discussion Paper

I was more referring to the "Australian Values" section as appealing towards the rednecks, not the English section. Hence why I said an English test isn't entirely unreasonable. Though isn't there an IELTS requirement for PR now? (Obviously for people who come from ESB countries, so countries...

Citizenship - The Citizenship Testing Discussion Paper

He's just playing the race card. Appealing to the rednecks. An English test isn't entirely unreasonable. The Australian Values section, unless it only says "to abide by Australian law" is completely unacceptable. I can assure you my values are different to those of my parents, and possibly my...

Citizenship - The Citizenship Testing Discussion Paper

I saw a Luke, John and Matthew in the post... they're the basis of the New Testament. The Old Testament is still important. Christians still hold the Ten Commandments as the most important rules in Christianity below Jesus' "Love thy neighbour" commandment. The Old Testament is also used to...

    Summer Session

I guess for 6cp (if it is six cp), then doing an assignment this week for a five day course isn't bad at all. I'd do it. Five days is good!

    Meninism

Is it not called masculism? Besides, feminism doesn't promote more rights or priviledges for women, it promotes equal rights or priviledges for everybody, regardless of gender. Is masculism (or meninism) really necessary? Sure you get the feminazis who think men are horrible and deserve less...

    Summer Session

I'm taking LANG196 (Beginners Chinese) and MATH162. I dropped out of MATH142 last semester because I couldn't stand the lecturer (some dude named Nirmalendu or something). If I complete these, they'll be my last first year subjects. Next year I might focus on Third of fourth year subjects.

Australia and New Zealand 'should become one'

Not to mention a lot of Pacific island states hate Australia. :(

Australia and New Zealand 'should become one'

The committee could, otherwise they wouldn't have proposed the idea (instead of simply harmonising laws between the two countries).

Australia and New Zealand 'should become one'

While it might seem like it makes sense for a union, I don't think many kiwis will be for that idea. Any plausible union would mean the rewriting of the Australian constitution. I'd assume a union between the countries would technically mean NZ becoming a state of Australia. I don't think the...

    Homosexuality in Australia

While I agree to characterise them in the same manner is amusing, I was just referring to a previous poster's example, to keep continuity. However, you say that "homosexuality not being a disease" is a matter of classification. Shouldn't it be noted that there are experts almost worldwide that...

    Homosexuality in Australia

You most certainly can disagree, but you'd end up looking pretty silly trying to argue with a geographer that the Earth is flat. Just like you'd end up looking pretty silly trying to argue with most psychiatrists that homosexuality is a disease. The views are also scientifically established...
