    Purchasing an older edition textbook

I also tend to purchase the latest editions for law - it is always better to be safe then sorry. The other thing to think about is whether you have another contract course later (eg at USYD there are two compulsory contracts courses two years apart - well one and a half in any case) - by the...

    Purchasing an older edition textbook

If you arent able to actually compare the two editions then the best thing to do is ask the lecturer. They will know if you can do it with the older book. The thing about law is it can change quite a bit between editions, however some areas more than others. Contracts course tends to be the more...

    Lecture Slides

It depends on the individual lecturer. No lecturer is required to put up their PowerPoint slides (at all). Most do, however in my personal experience, my lecturers have always tended to put the slides up after the lecture. Some put them up before. If a lecturer is going to put their slides...

ARE SEMESTER BREAKS REALLY A BREAK??????

It is a complete break. Semester 1 and semester 2 are completely separate. Subjects from sem 1 are all finished by end of exams, and you won't have to do anything for subjects in sem 2 until semester actually starts. Lots of students go on holidays over July or work etc.

    UNSW or Usyd

In the end I don't think you'll find much difference between law/business at USYD/unsw. There is no difference in career prospects etc. My advice would be to go down to Sydney and take a look at both campuses. Check them out, and the colleges. In terms of colleges I don't know much at all...

    Orientation.

I think the difference is that arc has already managed to secure SA funding from the university, and thus it can afford to remove membership fees. USYD union however has no such deal and thus has to get as much money from other sources (such as membership fees) until it has sorted out a funding...

    Orientation.

You are right. Faculty clubs are an exception - you do not need an access card to join them (eg. Law society etc).

    Orientation.

Yes. Clubs and societies are run by the union, so to join clubs and societies you must be a member of the union. You become a member by purchasing an access card. Yes. USYD students are required to pay the amenities fee. However since this fee goes to the university, not the union, the union...

    Materials for notes

Just get an exercise book for each subject or something similar. You can always change if you don't like it. Saying that, people do use laptops in certain subjects (law for example), if the laptop is light/easy to carry around. I now use my laptop for everything, but basically do whatever you...

    Turn up to any lecture

I agree. By all means attend a lecture you aren't scheduled to attend - but if the lecture is over capacity and people are sitting in the aisles, I would strongly suggest if you aren't scheduled to attend that class that you give up your seat and sit in the aisles. As a side note, generally...

I can't add units of study on Student Administration online?

Just in case - have you tried using a different browser? I think some browsers have issues with myadmin, so perhaps test another one? (eg. try firefox if you haven't already). If you can't do it online, then yes, it should be fine to just go into arts faculty and hand the form in person.

    Help me appeal against exclusion

I believe the SRC can help with appeals against the university - perhaps give them a call And organise a meeting with a caseworker. Sorry I can't be of further help.

    HELP PLZ!!!! T_T

the "no more than 18 junior credit points from one subject area" is a requirement in a normal BA as well as the BA/Bsc. If ECON and ECMT counted as one subject area, no one would be able to do it. I reckon its fine. http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/arts/coursework/b_arts.shtml

    HELP PLZ!!!! T_T

i think this is right. Generally if there are different codes (ECON vs ECMT) it means they are different subject areas (even if they are required for one major).

    HELP PLZ!!!! T_T

http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/science/undergraduate/combined/b_arts.shtml#sample_bachelor_of_science_bachelor_of_arts_4_years attached is the link with an example course guide for a BA/BSc. They recommend doing more science units in first year, and arts later, however I don't see a problem if...

    Residential Colleges...

accommodation costs? no. Colleges do offer some scholarships though which can help.

    Residential Colleges...

It would be very difficult to rent a house in the sydney uni area (glebe/newtown) for $450 a week. Friends in glebe/newtown are paying upwards of $250 a week each for a 3 bedroom terrace. They also have to pay bills etc on top of that and food. Yes, it is still cheaper than college...but not as...

    Good places to eat?

If you want large cheap meals, go to any of the thai restaurants on King St - about a 5 minute walk from uni. They do $6.50 thai. You can generally make it in an hour lunch break, but sometimes it can take a while for the food to arrive. You will find lots of students at these restaurants...

    Necessary to attend all lectures?

As OzKo said there are sometimes class participation marks for tutorials - anywhere from 10-20%. Rolls are generally taken in tutorials. In addition to class participation, there is also generally a requirement to attend 75 or 80% of tutorials. If you don't (and you don't have medical...
