    Semester 1 Timetables

Subjects withdrawn before the census date do not appear on your transcript. They only appear as withdrawn on myadmin. Jetblack- I didn't have to hang around on the new timetabling site too long, but it definitely is easier to use. Great work!

    Semester 1 Timetables

Yes I was able to change a class around. Perhaps just try again in a little bit.

    Semester 1 Timetables

edit: It worked! awesome. Class monday and wednesdays: 9 - 4 (1 hour break, on campus) 4.30-6.30 (city). The new timetable system seems a bit easier to use as well. And you can go back and check out your timetable without it reallocating!

    Timetables.

Agreed. I have friends at UNSW who missed out on subjects within a minute of enrolment opening up. At least at USYD they allow however many people who have pre-enrolled in the subject to take the class - for example in law electives, waiting lists only operate after pre-enrolment has finished...

Do you bring your textbooks to Tutes?

Just paper and pen is normally fine. I use my laptop in classes, so I now tend to bring that to tutorials as well. To be honest, I think everything depends on what subjects you are doing and how tutorials are run - some tutorials are discussions, some you do problem questions, some are just like...

Do you bring your textbooks to Tutes?

Depends on the tutorial and the subject (and practicalities such as how many tutes you have in a day, how heavy are the textbooks). I tend to try to bring readers to tutes because it jogs my memory of what i've read, but I generally don't bring textbooks. They are too heavy, and a tutorial is...

    Important Dates 2012

you can get your timetable from myuni - under the 'mystudy' tab, then 'personalised timetables'. They generally come out the week before O-week. They don't tend to give an exact date.

Practical getting a laptop for uni?

You will also notice that 95% students studying law at USYD will have a laptop in class (not sure about firt year, but by later years mostly everyone has given up on handwriting - I find my typing much faster then handwriting and easier to decipher later! Regarding textbooks - you don't need...

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

Re: 2012 USYD Chatter Thread You would just pay for 5 subjects, rather than 4. They don't charge you any more than the course actually costs.

What are100,200 and so on levels of unita

However there's generally a limit on the number of 100 level subjects you can do. 200 level subjects will generally have a certain number of 100 level prerequisites, and 300 level will have 200 level prerequisites. Note though that some universities and some faculties have removed a lot of 300...

A few questions before school starts...

Week 1 starts 5 March. Tutorials generally don't run in the first week, but lectures do. Officially timetables are released around beginning of o-week. From past experience they tend to come out the week before (eg. 20th Feb). The timetable allocates you to class. The 'best' classes aren't...

First year student: Buying textbooks now or later...

Depends on what you are studying, beware of second hand textbooks. For example. Law subjects tends to release new textbook every second year and you generally need to get the most up to date as the law will have changed (sometimes not much, sometimes rather dramatically).

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

Re: 2012 USYD Chatter Thread except when you stick honours in the middle, and drop to 3 subjects a semester in penultimate year. I'm entering 6th year and won't finish until mid-2013 :( i'm sick of living on a student budget.

    Full time work and uni?

I think you should probably consider your career in the long run, and thus finish your degree. However I guess the other option could be to defer uni for a year, take the job for a year and see how it goes. You then get contacts etc and could then go back to uni after a year to finish.

    Full time work and uni?

It depends how flexible the work is and how much you are able to combine your timetable. The other aspect is if the job is in the career you want to go into, and is your degree needed for the job? (Are they expecting you to finish your degree? In which case I would assume they would be pretty...

Time it takes for Uni applications

In terms of the accepting uni offers, enrolment process, it is fine to go overseas so long as you have someone back in australia who will be your proxy for you - this means they go to the university to enrol for you if it requires enrolment on campus (ie. not online). I did this and it worked...

    Explosion at Chemistry building?

That's horrible. I hope the student recovers - and I hope they find out what happened so that it doesn't occur again.

    Question about concessions

This was raised in a thread a couple of months ago. No one pays attention to that requirement, and it is never followed up. It would have to be one of the most flouted rules in Australia. Everyone just gets the concession anyway.

    Moving out?

I can't give percentages or anything, but i would think more people would be living at home than not. It is very expensive to move out - especially if you are trying to find rental accommodation around particular universities (usyd for example). Agents don't like renting to students, so if they...

What is extracurricular/social life like at USYD?

The social life is what you make of it. There are lots of opportunities to get involved - many clubs and societies and sports to join if you want to. I know people who would be hanging out at manning bar or Herman's everyday. If you want to hang out at Uni socially you will find other people who...
