    Semester 1 Chatter Thread (2008)

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread Woo, footbridge! Although I hope the concrete darkens a bit, because in full sunlight it is blinding. Had a lecture in Eastern Avenue Lecture Theatre (the small one on level 3), which was hilarious because about half the class went to Eastern Avenue Auditorium...

    Quad Latin = main quadrangle?

Meh. It's a very attractive building, but most of the classrooms are pretty dodgy.

    Safety @ Redfern

I've never heard of a mugging in Redfern, and it's definitely completely safe during the daytime. I'd probably take advantage of the security bus in the evening though, just to be on the safe side.

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread There are benches? Where? Meanwhile, Blackboard is back up, economics/business kids! bustinjustin: looks like GOVT is still using Blackboard as well - my government subjects are in the drop-down menu on the right. So with this, remaining in Merewether and...

    Rudd to destroy our democracy?

Yeah, Carlton and Ramsey do more than retyping the press releases of the party they support, which is Akerman's stock in trade. (Arguably, Ramsey's stock in trade is cut-and-pasting a report or speech and then adding a nasty bilious paragraph at each end, but yeah.) I particularly like Piers'...

    Quad Latin = main quadrangle?

Nah, I love the history room. It's one of the more comfortable wooden theatres (as opposed to the carslaw ones, which were apparently designed by the spanish inquisition).

    Quad Latin = main quadrangle?

Yep, 'Quad' just means the main quadrangle. (Strictly speaking it's just called the quadrangle, since we only have one.) To get to the latin rooms (there are 2, creatively named Quad Latin 1 and Quad latin 2) go into the corridor in the southeast corner behind the jacaranda, and they're the...

Course Readers - what are they

Don't know about sociology, possibly they just haven't put the reader online yet. The government department doesn't use the university copy centre, it uses a different printer near the uni (Kopystop) which doesn't have online ordering. They'll tell you how to get there in the first lecture...

Course Readers - what are they

Typically 'recommended reading', as opposed to 'compulsory reading', is something you have to get yourself online/from the library. Compulsory readings will be in the reader and/or textbook. However, no one does recommended reading unless they're doing a presentation in that tute or an essay on...

    O-Week: Worth it?

There'll be big tents at O-Week where you queue to get one ($99) or you can pre-order online or buy one from the Access Centre once semester starts. It's different to the student card, yes - it's the membership card of the student union (USU) and entitles you to discounts and so on.
