Re: Official Semester 1 Exams Thread Poor ujuphleg :( My take-home is going awesomely. Hopefully I'll be done in the next 30 mins or so. Then I can be calm for a few days before the proper exams start to make me panic.

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

Labor attacks 'extremist' Hawke: Can anyone fill me in on what these 'extremist' views are? Is it the normal 'Thou shalt not have an abortion, under any circumstances' stuff or is it a bit more out there? Also, when I saw that headline I thought that Labor was attacking Bob Hawke. Which...

Spartans - What ancient Greek writers wrote

Not all the Greeks disliked the Spartans. Xenophon (Constitution of the Lacadaemonians) liked a lot of what they did. Aristotle (Politics) had some criticisms for their governmental system, though.

    BA advanced

Yep, I believe the new (commenced in 2007) BA Adv essentially knocks out the first year, so you go straight into second year and complete Honours in three years. I suppose it'd be good if you're confident enough to dive straight into the deep end.

    Hsty1022

Yeah, he's been pimping MDST to us quite heavily in lectures. And talks continuously about what his First Crusade class is doing. If I decide to major in history rather than ancient history I may do one or two units.

    Favourite Historical books?

Ugh. Fingersmith. I haven't actually read it, but the miniseries was awful. For historical fiction, the one that springs to mind is the Ramses quintet, by Christian Jacq. Boy, is it ever tacky and unnecessarily long. But there's plenty of rippling muscles, sheer robes and gratuitous sex scenes...

    archi entry with portfolio ?

Sydney has various special entry programs. They're not extensive, but Architecture takes part in the Flexible Entry program. Basically, it involves them allowing you in with a UAI up to 5 points below the cut-off if you demonstrate an 'aptitude for the subject'. Architecture faculty has more...

    Semester I Chatter Thread (2007)

Re: Semester I 2007 - Chatter Thread! Hmm. If I can get the timetable system to give me the tutes I want I could get myself a pretty sweet timetable. Only if I switch into HSTY1088 I'll have to come in on Thursdays :(, and if I switch into HSTY1044 it'll clash with archaeology. How sucky...

how do you know your STUDENT NUMBER?

Do you have your school certificate or any of the enrolment confirmation forms? The number's on all of them. (It's at the bottom of the school certificate, I think.)

    what should i do?

Liberal Studies, at Sydney at least: a major from the Faculty of Arts, a major from the Faculty of Science, at least two years of a language, and a junior unit in each of Maths and English. It's a pretty broad degree. (Hence 'liberal studies'.)

    Is History ext hard?

Ugh. I got home at about 9-10pm the night before it was due and had to finish my final edit and forge most of my log. It was like hell.

    Semester I Chatter Thread (2007)

Re: Semester I 2007 - Chatter Thread! Ha. It'll probably be more enduring than 'building a community' or whatever his catch phrase was. Apropos of nothing, when do we get timetables for next semester? I'm going to be on holiday until the Saturday before semester starts, so I'm hoping to be...

    student ID

The BOS pin is mainly for Students Online iirc. And I think UAIs will be released online only. You can get HSC marks by SMS, but not the UAI.

Official Semester 1 (2007) Exams Thread

Re: Official Semester 1 Exams Thread Unfortunately not. I assumed that his notes would be available during the exam period, so I only have my dodgy lecture notes, which basically consist of a large number of reminders to follow things up in the online notes. Ugh.

    lowest uai to enter medicine?

Some absurd amount. Something like $40000 a year for the med component.

    Scaling/moderation for different texts?

Don't think so. I can't imagine there being a formal process, although markers might take relative difficulty of questions into consideration when marking. They generally design all the options and questions to be around the same difficulty, though.

    lowest uai to enter medicine?

To go straight into Usyd medicine from school (in a combined degree) you need a minimum of 99.95. So only about 40 people in the state are even eligible each year. Most people wanting to do Sydney med do it via the graduate route. ETA: Yeah, that's pretty much it. Only if you go straight in...

Official Semester 1 (2007) Exams Thread

Re: Official Semester 1 Exams Thread Thanks veridis. Section C would probably be easier had I actually paid any attention during that part of the course. I have a book about the Muslim world around somewhere, so I might be able to do one of those questions reasonably competently.
