The Melbourne Model: Thoughts and Opinions

Yeah, the fact that they're defining JD as postgrad is a bit of a problem. Law is expensive enough as it is.

Labor vs Liberals. whats the big differences?

Touche. But I have no problems with Greg Combet. Nor do I need to worry anyway, because my ALP candidate is Bob Debus, who is intelligent and can do righteous anger pretty effectively. Incidentally, is the local ALP branch making a fuss about Combet like Kingsford-Smith ineffectually did about...

Labor vs Liberals. whats the big differences?

A: Preselection is run by the parties. There's no requirement for it to be 'democratic'. The parties can draw lots and let the Holy Ghost decide who's going to be the candidate if they so wish. B: Preselection being handled by head office is not really much less desirable than preselection being...

The Melbourne Model: Thoughts and Opinions

Employers aren't going to base their decision on your university. Yes, it tells them who got the better mark in Y12. Once you've completed 3+ years of a degree, employers don't care that much if your UAI or ENTER or whatever was 99.2 or 94.5. They look at your tertiary results, and your personal...

Re: The Official Union Board Elections 2007 Thread Why is Hancock last, out of interest?

They're not likely to be forming government at the next election, though.

    Union Board Elections 2007

Re: The Official Union Board Elections 2007 Thread What's Phil Thai's position on ... you know, the issues, whatever they might be? He's the only candidate I've heard absolutely nothing from over the past fortnight.

    What's Your Common Room like?

My old school hand one until up to about when I was in Y8. Then the Y12 of that year completely trashed it (things got chucked out of windows, the fridge was so filthy that it was about to grow legs and walk away, I believe they managed to destroy the pool table somehow) so the school yanked it...

Gang superglues naked man to exercise bike

Good point. Argggh. That's not a pleasant thought at all. I wonder if they actually brought the superglue along with them, as a creative alternative to duct tape, or if it was just a spur-of-the-moment thing.

Use of personal voice in english

My impression of it in my HSC year was that you'd use 'I think...' if the question is along the lines of 'What is your personal opinion of X?', but not in a question like 'Explain the significance of character Y's depiction in Book Z'. So you'd use personal voice in a question asking for your...

Gang superglues naked man to exercise bike

I don't see why they needed him to be naked. That just makes it seem like a weird fetish.

    Sleep and Uni

True. I've been getting into getting a mocha from the cart outside the library in order to relax myself from public transport before I start working. (Or 'start' 'working', at least.) Don't know why my chosen method of relaxation is to pump myself full of caffeine and sugar, but who gives a crap.

Just be prepared to be absolutely exhausted once it wears off and you hit the caffeine low.

SMH - Rate my teachers headline article

Gasp! It's based in the US! Seriously, what's that got to do with anything? And what's the fact that it's commercial got to do with anything? Neither of those factors affect the content of the site, which is contributed by users.

    Racist pub bans Arabs, Islanders

Agreed. Being of Arabic descent or Islander descent or whatever doesn't impact on your personal behaviour. If people are rocking up clearly off their faces and swearing their heads off and whatever then they should be denied admission whatever their race, if the publican wants to discourage...

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

I see where you're coming from, but 'deliberately barren'? On top of other things Heffernan has said in the past ('Michael Kirby uses Commonwealth cars to pick up rent boys', for instance), I'm more inclined to believe he was being idiotic and wantonly offensive, rather than just making a comment.

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

News just in: Bill Heffernan is a jerk. You have to wonder if he ever, you know, thinks before he mouths off. Gillard's response: "I think Australian women understand [that] modern Australian women face a set of choices. They're actually very supportive of Australian women having those...
