    Laptop bag

The average weight for a ranked laptop was 8.83 pounds (google) 8.83 pounds = 4.00522063 kilograms My laptop has a lithium 12 battery in it so its about 6 kilos I think

    Timetables

Leading up to uni was somewhat like this 16th Jan accepted into UWA 23rd Jan information night (didn't bother going as I was in melbourne.) Early Feb sign up for units in person (get your student card, get your UWA account and get lectured on how to set up timetable.) Week later timetable is...

Goodluck walking 1.5 kms from the bus stop to your faculty with any of those containing a 4 kg laptop, 1000 page hardcover textbook, stationery, exercise books and lunch.

    Laptop bag

I have used both a shoulder bag and a laptop bag and a rucksack is about 100x better (especially if you need textbooks.)

So I've fallen in love with the cover girl of the Good Universities Guide 2011...

Had 4 guys (including me) and about 15 girls at the party I went to - its not that great (especially since they won't stfu.)

    Scholarships?

Apart from the ones you are automatically entered into yes its too late. They are hell competitive so I wouldn't worry about it.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

Got distinctions in both subjects when I repeated them - both had an average mark of a fail.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

I did Ex2 Maths, Phys, Chem, Econs and I failed my first two programming units because I was lazy and getting 0 in a lab you spent 12 hours working on put me off it.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

Prototyping as in testing that your idea works so you can make it faster. Just learn C++ for now - the better you get at it the better chance you will have of getting a job.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

Matlab for prototyping C++ for its compilers (I'd learn this first - its what everyone uses) C# - pretty much newer version of C++ (don't kill me for saying this!) FORTAN for its super duper extreme power (use this if you want something to go insanely fast - mathematical modellers use it as...

How do you become a successful actuary

To be successful you need to pass your 10 level 3 exams. Extra-Curricular not so much - just to show you aren't a boring person. If you want to work in an IB/Hedgefund you will find that they will not like extracurriculars regarding management kind of stuff. Uni doesn't matter if you are going...

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

You saying that doing stats/comp science isn't enough flexibility!?!?

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

I'd do stats and computer science IMHO (3 year BSci) NEXT TO NO ONE gets a maths job in finance without honours/masters/PhD.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

Thing about undergrad applied is its pretty shit - you don't learn anything good about modelling or simulations. For these reasons I'd do the standard Real Analysis units and fill the rest up with stats.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

I hated Algebra and Number Theory - real analysis is useful though and is alright I found. Yes I have all of his books and a first edition of his autobiography :D

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

I'd seriously do first year comp science though - its been so much more helpful than maths units for me.

What made you want to do your uni course?

Nothing to do with parents. Sounded like I'd get a very analytical degree which would give me a lot of job oppurtunities in various fields. Yeah good job prospects was the main reason I guess. I liked maths and economics at school so I went into maths and economics. I had the ATAR by a mile...
