Looking at taking up Bsc (geology)

Velox is doing B.Sc Geophysics majoring in mathematics and statistics. I have no idea about what knowledge is required to trade commodities and such so I'm no use here - think I might have some e-books it though. Are there no geology graduate certificates/masters degrees you can get into?

    Actuarial (double or single)?

I'd assume forever - think it takes people generally 15 years to become a full FIAA actuary. I've seen a few people get 2 of their exams done during university which would be cool.

    Actuarial (double or single)?

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to be an 'actuary' you have to do (to my knowledge): Stage 1 (UG - 3 years) Stage 2 (Post Grad - 1 year) Stage 3 (Exams - ~7 years?) I dropped my commerce degree because I believe honours + 0.5 years > finance major. If you want to be one of these...

Programming jobs get outsourced to India so you don't want to be a code monkey.

How to become an actuary....... help me

I think an actuarial science degree's only pro (as opposed to a mathematics degree) is the qualification which really doesn't add up to much compared to a PhD (there are some forms only a FIAA actuary can sign but I don't know the importance of this.) Actuarial is more risk based however due to...

Mathematics, preparation for uni (mature age)

Heaps of books you will be able to get from torrents or your local library will have your simple maths books - I'd refrain from trying to jump into multivariable calculus as thats really 2nd year onwards. If you go over these things you'll be fine (for first year anyway): Single-variable...

Job prospects of an MFin student?

I'd imagine it to be like that. I'm just wondering if the roles such as director of R&D in a firm would really require it - like would you be expected to be looking at the cost/management side of r&d as opposed to actually doing r&d Good thing about having a quantitative background is...

Looking at taking up Bsc (geology)

You should PM velox about this - he does geophysics. I'd look at doing a graduate certificate in geology if one is avaliable as that'd be a lot quicker (not sure if it is cheap though!)

STILL trying to figure out which course to do, advice appreciated

Yes and you can take the advanced maths units - you will just recieve B.science not B.advanced science. Try to get the most flexible degree structure possible - really wish I did fluid dynamics instead of economics ><

STILL trying to figure out which course to do, advice appreciated

There are some computational mathematics units at UNSW (more than UWA anyway :() If you do a B.Sc(Mathematics) you will be using packages like MATLAB, Mathematica, R though no mathematics units involve actual programming which I consider to be quite important. If you do a B.Sc(Computer Science)...

What time do you guys plan on going to bed before your morning exams?

I got an hour sleep before my english - kinda threw up in my mouth a bit as soon as I get there LOL but I sat down and wrote 14 pages which I thought were the best essays I had ever written (expected 95/80/90 or something) - ended up getting a scaled score of 69 so it musn'tve been that good.
