Can I just chip in with some personal thoughts (obviously this won't apply to everyone): Personally I thought the HSC year was WAY overhyped. If you're just consistent across the year and don't leave everything last minute, there isn't as much stress as everything builds it up to be. Contrary to...

Year 12 2012 Chit Chat Thread

Yeah there is- tariffs are easy though and there's some neat stats on those- I'll send them all over after HSC (it'll take too long to organise them properly because its all over the place lol)

    e^(f(x)) graph

Forget about the actual derivatives for a second- think about what does -1 or 1 hold when you take something to that power?

Are the Top 10 schools pretty much guaranteed at least an 80 atar?

Not really because the random would be pretty much last in everything. Scaling doesn't help those at the very bottom

Are the Top 10 schools pretty much guaranteed at least an 80 atar?

If you've got the ability to get into a top end selective school, you could get 80 with extremely little effort (srs). I think the point a lot of people miss is that the only people that get into these schools are very strong academically-> if you just planted a random guy into Ruse, he wouldn't...

    Circle Geometry

What Carrot said is the general method. Just be very careful to avoid circular reasoning-> like a lot of people when they draw the diagram ASSUME that the points are collinear and then deduce things off that -> that's illegal because you are trying to prove its collinear. When you draw your...

Yes they could specify if they wanted to

    Math help

@Sy- k=-1 is also a valid answer because the equation pretty much decomposes to x^2=0 which trivially has two equal roots

    1994 Past paper question

How on earth are you going to sketch that accurately? Your answer will most likely be an irrational number -> there's no way you'd get the answer from a graph For these questions, stick to algebraic or trig methods

    Study Hsc now?

If you're in year 10, seriously go out and have some fun. Go to the beach or the movies or whatever. I'm not saying don't do any work- that's your call and depends on things like tutors, parents, areas of weakness etc. What I'm saying is DON'T stress too much and there's no real need to start...

    1994 Past paper question

I don't have time for a full worked solution sorry but I'll give the general method and then hopefully you can do it or someone can post a full solution. Basically you are using whats known as the auxilliary angles method. You basically change the LHS into the form of Asin(theta-b) for some A,b...

Are the Top 10 schools pretty much guaranteed at least an 80 atar?

The gap matters for the guy coming second but not for the guy coming first. Like regardless of whether you top by 1% or 50%, you still get the top external mark as your assessment

Yeah same. My main one is not a good ending- its basically about how he compromises his principles etc. to belong which is why I wrote a happy one today lol (the classic stuffed up homeland -> migration one). I hope I can use my main one though
