    HSC 2012 MX1 Marathon #1 (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX1 Marathon Yep. How did you do it? If you can't type it up, can you just summarise the method and then I'll be able to see where I stuffed up.

Re: 2012 HSC MX1 Marathon Maybe you guys can help me out on this problem. I tried it and what I'm doing should work but it isn't (have no idea where I made my mistake). Here's the question: The tangent to the curve y=x^3 has equation y=12x-16 and meets the curve at (2,8) and (-4,-64). Find the...

Re: 2012 HSC MX1 Marathon This question was fun to do. Enjoy :) Find the value of k for which the line y=kx bisects the area enclosed by the curve 4y=4x-x^2 and the x-axis.

    Doing economics, business and legal.

Economics is absolutely nothing to do with 4U maths or english. The maths involved is 2U/general level (there's no calculus) but you do have to be able to write coherent essays to get good marks. I do Advanced english and I came first in eco at a selective school so you definitely don't need to...

Re: 2012 HSC MX1 Marathon Woops, it was sinx -x + x^3/6. It's a past 4U HSC question I think (94) but some 3U students might be able to do it :)

    HSC 2012 MX1 Marathon #1 (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX1 Marathon I'm not sure if this is strictly 3U but here goes: It is known that if f(0)=0 and f'(0) is greater than or equal to zero for x>0, then f(x) is greater than or equal to zero for x>0. Use this to show that sinx-1+x^3/6 is greater than or equal to 0 for x>0

Comparison of Maths Ext 2 books

This. I personally prefer Cambridge though I also use Terry Lee. If you can get both, i would as I think they work well together and provide a good mix of questions.

Full timetable for me (still I prefer that than before and after school classes)

Newtons law of universal gravitation question

Sorry, can one of you guys explain where this is wrong: 1. Gravitational acceleration on Earth is 9.81m/s. Therefore if weight is 1/100, gravitational accleration is 0.0981m/s. 2. We know that acceleration=(GmE)/(rE)^2 3. Sub in 0.0981=(6.67x10^-11)x(5.97x10^24)/(r)^2 4. Solve for r and subtract...

Newtons law of universal gravitation question

I just did it quickly and got the same answer as you. Maybe someone else can confirm?

Could we be asked questions from the skill points?

In addition, they tend to show up as big markers. For example, there was a 7 mark question a few years back asking about a comparison between two batteries.

    khfreakau's raw marks :)

This. 89 is a crazy mark. I guess what everyone was saying about the test being easier than the past had an impact

Epic marks :). How many words/pages do you think you wrote for each english module essay and for your eco essays?

    Who has done the SAT's?

Try things involving leadership or communication. Try out for the SRC, do public speaking competitions etc in order to show that you can actually interact with others rather than just be good at academic stuff which doesn't neccessarily correlate with people skills.
