Prediction: More shit actuaries to come out of UNSW.

Don't feel silly, it is confusing [SMH]

It would be an administrative nightmare, both in terms of the time and money, to conduct interviews, tests, essays, etc, on a large scale.

    The hoo-hah surrounding investment banking

I disagree with the generality of that statement as it depends what market you are trading in. For example, you need to be fairly competent in maths to succeed in credit derivatives or something exotic.

    combined commerce/science degree

In later yrs, 1 x MATH subject = usually 4hrs and 1 X Commerce subject = 3 hrs so if you have a half commerce/half maths load for the semester you will have a 14hr wk.

    1) "Yes" because it is pretty packed. the 3uoc subjects are really 6uoc of work, esp Higher DEs which is hard. Also, when I did them in 2nd yr, the exams were packed into 1 wk. 2) "you are supposed" because they are core subjects. You need the know them before you can think of doing any of...

Yeah, there are ppl like that at unsw too, eg Affinity. But no reason to fear getting your ass kicked..we all don't need marks of 99 to sleep easy at night.

    A PDE Problem

    I'm interested in solving a 2-D parabolic PDE (I'm pretty sure these can be transformed into the heat eqn) which takes the form: Dt(u) = A(t,x)*Dxx(u) + B*(t,x,y)*Dxy(u) + C(t,y)*Dyy(u) - D*u where u = u(t,x,y), A,B,C are functions, D is a constant t,x and y in [0,+Inf) Initial...

    Unavoidable --ing clashes

You're lucky they're even offering Complex Analysis in S1. This is the last yr. It's because more people do Complex in Session 2, eg engineering students.

Now called the Faculty of Business?

Should you really be making this public? We don't want USyd to steal UNSW's thunder with the support of their many generous (and wealthy) alumni.

    BSc(advanced) @ UNSW or BSc @ USYD

On the pt of originality, do you know of any Honours thesis that has resulted in a journal publication? I've seen some coursework Masters projects lead to publications, but that may be because the student has had previous research experience from say Honours.
