    Economics or commerce?

If you want an international flavour to your degree, just go on exchange and take some Arts subjects as electives, and that way you will basically have the same without having to spend an extra yr. They're just repackaging existing degrees with more cutting-edge sounding names. Who knows, maybe...

    Economics or commerce?

BSc/BSc still sounds bad. Should just do a straight BSc or BSc (Adv Sci) double majoring in Maths and Comp Sci. It's the degree I should have done. Liberal studies is for chicks who can't make up their mind. If you want to go overseas and do some Artsy subjects, you should apply to go on...

    Mathematics at ANU

Hey, I'm just curious how ANU stacks up against UNSW (who claim to be no. 1 in Australia), and also internationally. I'm most interested in Financial Maths research.

Transfer from Bcomm in Macquarie to UNSW

MATH/COMP are Science subjects and will be credited to a Science degree. Actuarial and other Commerce subjects will be credited to a Commerce degree. This holds if the content and assessment is similar to the equivalent 1st yr courses. The idea of options/electives is provided in the...

    any1 MAJORING in mathematics?

For most 3rd yr Pure Maths, as there is usually <15 ppl per course they negotiate with the lecturer on Monday morning, Wk 1, the times for lectures and tutes. For other 3rd yr subjects, the tutorial is one of the lectures as listed in the Class Utilisation website, and is subject to change...

    combined commerce & science

Actuarial is basically an applied stats degree, so they're better off specialising in something else like Applied/Pure Math.

    Advanced Science/Mathematics student research projects

    1) Math lecturers have a heavy teaching load from 1st yr and 2nd yr. They don't have time to supervise a lot of students 2) You need to have a strong foundation to successfully learn new topics on your own, so coursework for the first couple of yrs is of more importance. I think it would be...

    any1 MAJORING in mathematics?

Yes, I plan to specialise in Statistics and Pure Mathematics (you can also specialise in Applied Mathematics). Maths is quite enjoyable as a major as it is interesting, challenging and there is a lot of flexibility/choice in your studies. In high year subjects, its 4 hrs of lectures and tutes...

    USYD vs UNSW

Do you reckon there are more selective school kids at UNSW? And more preppy white guys at USyd?

    UNSW commerce or UTS business

IBUS is a bogus major, like INFS. Combined degrees should aim to add complementary skills, not just knowledge. For example, Econometrics in Finance or Economics is equally light on the theory, but combining with a Stats major would be ideal in lifting your understanding. The new degrees...

    UNSW commerce or UTS business

Hmmm..thats true. Didn't think of that. I reckon an Economics-related major doesn't really add anything to an actuarial degree. (The Actuarial Studies Unit/Department of Actuarial Studies is actually part of the School of Economics). Better off doing law, comp sci/seng or maths.

    Advanced Science student projects

I think so, but I think usually you do them as electives on top of the minimum requirements for the major. I don't think you need to submit an essay, just a set of polished lecture notes and maybe an oral exam.

    Advanced Science student projects

Maths extension activities: - skipping subject prereqs - overloading subjects in a semester (very flexible) - allowed to do postgrad subjects - project (aka reading) courses are available, but no one does them Not sure if the Maths staff have time to supervise a lot of projects, as...

    Calling all Math majors!

    1. Marks 2. Financial maths is more interesting, but actuarial is probably the only profession where I can actually apply that kind of stuff. 3. A more well-rounded education.
