    You don't need to use Maple for Discete. Writing algorithms in the Maple language is fairly intuitive.

    Only Matlab is required for 1st yr (mainly the comp test and assignment). You may need to use Maple in 2nd yr maths (eg. Linear Algebra). For both packages, the help files are invaluable.
