how competitive will it be to get a job after graduating from uni

It sounds so simplistic, but I couldn't agree more. Obviously, it varies by degree/field, but the key to gaining work is understanding your industry and the steps needed to get a job. The market for graduate/entry level roles is usually quite tough, but I find that most people who fail to get...

Do employers care about what uni you go to and your wam?

Generally speaking, employers don't care about your university. There are some exceptions to this (MBB and IB), but most modern organisations are more interested in other areas of your CV. The reason this myth continues to remain is because most people who secure graduate roles are from...

Discussion Thread for Atar Notes & other forums

Re: ATAR Notes vs Bored of Studies It's interesting because I essentially felt the same way about BoS at one point. As Ive said many times in this thread, BoS is a user driven website and it would be nice to see this level of passion return amongst the userbase.

How do HSC markers check for plagiarism?

Put simply, they dont check for plagiarism because the task is impractical due to the following factors: - Papers are marked very quickly - Markers check a high volume of papers - There is a large team who marks each specific paper - They do not have the technology to scan papers like Turnitin...

Marks for legal employment - sacrificing results for work?

Having briefly worked in graduate recruitment for a top tier law firm, the field is extremely competitive and it isnt unusual to find candidates who are the total package in terms of marks, experience and personality. For law graduate programs especially with top tier firms, marks do count a...

How are the people in commerce esp finance?

You get all types in business really, it's such a broad field that it attracts a wide cross section of people. Finance in particular though can be quite cutthroat and high pressure, so if you are a particularly anxious person and dont handle pressure well, that might be something to ponder.

Maximising Your Employability Workshop (Saturday 11th March)

I think it would be even more relevant for a first year uni student. You need to be starting your professional development and career building from day one at university. If you have left it to your final year/graduation, you have left it too late.

Ranks these uni's for Commerce and Economics.

Specious reasoning in my view. The reason UNSW and to a lesser extent USyd, UTS etc are highly represented in graduate programs is generally due to the fact that they have a higher calibre of students. Organisations dont really care where you went to uni outside of say Law and maybe MBB/IB.

Ranks these uni's for Commerce and Economics.

In terms of employability, all are around the same - the university you go to doesn't really matter for most jobs in the Commerce field. In terms of learning experience, Id go to the open days and look up the courses in more depth to get a feel for each uni. Go with the one you feel is best...

St. Andrews catherdral school in town hall

Paying that kind of money just for smaller class sizes I still think is a waste. Having smaller classes isn't really as much of an advantage as you think. At the end of the day, teachers see students for about 45 minutes to an hour per class, they dont have time to provide that individualised...

Can i be an engineer if i did general math?

I consider General Maths to be pretty distinct from 2U/3U/4U. At least if the OP were doing 2U they would have some foundation, General Maths is just wholly inadequate.

Can i be an engineer if i did general math?

I definitely agree with Drongoski, I mean, you can still technically get into the degree but going in having only done General Maths is madness. First of all, you are making life harder for yourself when you start engineering and secondly, why would you avoid maths only to enter a degree with a...

St. Andrews catherdral school in town hall

I haven't been to St Andrews, but a few friends of mine went there over the years and from what they have said, it was definitely a good school. However, I probably wouldn't send my kids there because ultimately, I dont think it's close to being worth the $20-$30k pa price tag. I used to be a...

    How necessary is attending lectures?

It depends really on the course. Some courses you really need to go and others are a complete waste of time. I barely attended any lectures throughout my entire degree because they weren't really necessary. I did however go to my Accounting lectures because that was the only unit I had where...
