    Rules for Customers

Dear Customer, Please don't take five pairs of underwear into the change rooms, take off your ratty old undies, put the five pairs on at the same time and walk out of the change room into the shopping centre. If you do feel the need to do this, though, it's probably best to actually leave the...

    rear window

It was more Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler who wrote the book on hardboiled conventions, so to speak, in the 1920s and 30s, way before Hitchcock made Rear Window. Rear Window is often discussed within the framework of that subgenre because it was a popular aspect of crime fiction at the...

    Gorillaz: Plastic Beach

Great album. Stylo is excellent driving music too, esp considering the film clip.

    What are you currently Reading?

Best European Fiction 2010 edited by Aleksandar Hemon. It's excellent and it's long-lasting. I have to wait like a day between each short story to let them sit before I can adequately launch into the next one.

    rear window

I'd consider whodunit to be more relevant than cozy in Rear Window's case. But then again it's not really a whodunit because we know who the criminal is, we're just not sure that a crime occurred, no? So maybe this is another case where it would be good to talk about the subversion of the...

    Attention all Year 10ers

It's BOS policy. Check page 15 of the Rules and Procedures for 2010 HSC Candidates booklet, specifically 20/viii/c)-d), if you want to point it out to your school lol.

    rear window

We looked at it in terms of its adherence to and subversion of hardboiled conventions and its use of the crime genre as a vehicle to other focuses eg social commentary. And the themes of voyeurism and the construction of Jeff and his camera as a gateway character for an audience who spy on...

    Attention all Year 10ers

Ahk. Damn Senior College executive keeping us locked up in a sweltering room next to a (loud) playgroup with no means of escape.

    Attention all Year 10ers

We weren't allowed to leave at all during our SC exams and it sucked. Don't know if that was just school policy or BOS policy but I'm inclined to think it was the Board. For the HSC you can't leave in the first hour and you can't leave in the last 15 minutes.

    Attention all Year 10ers

So much word. I had to sit around for about 30 minutes at the end of all the papers and after the Science exam I got so bored that I started timing how long I could hold my breath for. Ended up being very lightheaded on the way out lol.

    Attention all Year 10ers

+ whatever. The SC is beyond a joke but it serves one useful purpose: dress rehearsal for the real thing. So you show up, do your best and ignore your results (or use them as motivation, whatever takes your fancy). I would advise any year 10 kids to REALLY NOT do what I did and get all stressed...

Who lives out of home for uni?

Nah I plan for that - it's part of the 'having a life' bit of my budget :). It's getting home and remembering you've spent three times your daily food budget on lunch when you could have just made yourself a sandwich if you'd woken up 10 minutes earlier which really sucks :(.

Who lives out of home for uni?

I live in Crows Nest and don't pay rent so that's a cost I can't comment on but I have no problems getting by on a budget of about $200 a week. I don't eat lunch out 6 days a week (maybe more like 3) but I go out every weekend and it's okay. Eating out chews a massive hole through the budget...

    A moral dilemma

Kohlberg's stages of morality!! Holy hell, I miss Society and Culture. I never have a clear answer to this one but about 80% of the time I think he should steal it. Standard stage 5 democratic government/utilitarianism principles ... people have a right to life etc, plus human life > property...

    Any ideas guys....need ya'lls help

If you want to remember concepts permanently you have to use them. Chat about them with people, apply them frequently and generally try to make it part of your general knowledge base. If you get bored on public transport (I used to travel 3 hours a day between school and home, ick) run through...

Can a sydney buses driver legally deny a child service?

I seem to remember there being this epic outcry a few years back cos a driver refused service to a school kid because he was ten cents short for his fare. Think he got fired or something? Either way it really didn't go well for him. Anyway bus drivers are douches but so is the general public...

How hard is eng ext 2??

Yes. As long as there is a link to Advanced/Extension 1 (don't make 'belonging' your link unless you want the markers to self destruct) and it's weighty enough to last you ~5000 words. Oh, and it's English-y. If you want to do something with social implications (like a friend of mine wanted to...

How hard is eng ext 2??

Yeah exactly. You don't have to be perfectly organised and always super motivated to do the course. You just have to know that when it really comes down to it you'll do yourself proud by submission date.
