    General Programming Thread

Created a messenger type application with Python for an assignment this term with a server and many clients. Also had to implement p2p messaging between clients. This was all done using socket programming. It wasn’t really difficult and tbh programming has kinda become mundane and boring to me...

What maths should I be taking with physics?

Yes doing standard is fine with high school Physics. HSC Physics is designed in such a way so that you do not need any higher levels of maths. Taking higher courses will make some specific content easier to understand, but this is in no way a requirement and you can understand it just as well...

    Math Advanced Prediction/Thoughts

Well I’ll take your guys word for it, but I do find it difficult to believe you needed to be an extension 1 student to not be rattled by the exam. Wdym? What people? What article? I’m just talking about in general having read a decent amount of articles over the past 4 years that it seems that way.

    Math Advanced Prediction/Thoughts

Yeah that’s what I meant. I swear in news articles I always see a few students/teachers saying this every year.

    Math Advanced Prediction/Thoughts

I swear they say that every year. Is it just me but literally every year you have the people in the news and on Facebook complaining about how the paper did not give students a chance to show what they’ve learnt.

Advanced math or Standard math with a bridging course later on?

I suggest doing the subject that best fits your mathematical ability or is a slightly above your ability. Don’t do standard just because it’s easier and you think it will help your atar. Scaling and all that neutralises it. Just as a side note Adv maths especially important if you’re pursuing...

Can we use the modulus operator in HSC algorithm questions?

Yes you can do both of those things. However don’t write the array one if the question tells you what index it starts at. As said above write mod. Although I don’t think I’ve ever seen an algorithm question in the history of the HSC where you had to use modulo.

Software Design & Development Exam Predictions/Thoughts

Pseudocode isn't really done in any programming courses, however you do some form of it or another in algorithms courses. These are courses focused entirely on the design and construction of algorithms to very unique problems. I did an algorithms course last term and loved it. As for the SDD...

Software Design & Development Exam Predictions/Thoughts

Yep the past 2-3 years they’ve focused much more on algorithms. It’s like they had a sudden shift starting from 2018. You’re pretty much guaranteed to get at least one of these.

Pre HSC State/ Post ATAR state

Hahah if you thought the politics at Usyd was insane, wait until you see the marxists running for SRC in the UNSW discussion group posting about overthrowing the Australian government and how it’s time we had such a revolution. Good news though they didn’t get elected..

It’s a few select number of people not necessarily moderators. However Jazz519 writes the chemistry paper.

    Complex Number Question

Alternatively you could say for 14) that because z/(z-i) is real, \arg\bigg(\dfrac{z}{z-i}\bigg) = 0 \therefore \arg(z) - \arg(z-i) = 0 \Rightarrow \fbox{arg(z) = arg(z-i)} You could then argue that the above equality is only true if z does NOT have a real part, or of course if it's 0.

    Explanation of HSC Marks (Moderating)

Idk about the afternoon tea thing but definitely all schools who publish atars at some point have asked their students.

    Explanation of HSC Marks (Moderating)

Yeah what vishnay said. Same thing at my school we had a post Hsc afternoon tea session in which they gave everyone a sheet where you had the choice to write down your atar and hand it in.

    Computer Science

I didn’t find the core courses difficult overall but they give tons of very difficult challenges and the end of exam questions are usually really rough for a lot of courses. Also if you do Cybersecurity there are some very very difficult courses you’ll have to do, but they’re also extremely...
