    UMAT 2015 Discussion Thread

My views on the UMAT are quite mixed and have changed over the years. Im not a big fan of psychometric tests in any context, but that's mainly because I feel the results are misinterpreted. With any selection process, whether it be for medicine or another role, a psychometric test should be...

    UMAT 2015 Discussion Thread

Nothing quite beats the UMAT at ANZ Stadium - it's a helicopter parents/stress head convention. The amount of nervous energy in the room is ridiculous (one year, there was this girl next to me chewing her hair like full on). Then there are the parents drilling their kids on exam strategy and...

    UMAT 2015 Discussion Thread

The first time I did it, I had no clue with that stuff. Practice definitely helps with s3 mainly because you start picking up on the frequent pattern designs ACER uses.

    Challenging Psychometric Test Question

I felt this topic warranted a thread in a more public area.

    Challenging Psychometric Test Question

Re: Confessions The question is technically incorrect then - if you cant assume facts outside the question, then you cant answer that question.

    Challenging Psychometric Test Question

Re: Confessions The question is supposed to be written: "Employees can be Part-time or Full-time. Part-time employees do not work in the New York office. Based on the information above, which of these statements MUST be true?"

    Challenging Psychometric Test Question

Re: Confessions Essentially my point with regards to A. Focusing on the facts alone, you cant comment on other offices given the information provided. You can however, comment exclusively on the NY Office.

    Challenging Psychometric Test Question

Re: Confessions The answer cant be A because there may be other FT staff working in other offices, the premise does not comment on that. In contrast, C is correct because since employees can only be PT or FT, the NY office must all be FT if PT are excluded.

    Challenging Psychometric Test Question

Re: Confessions Hence why the question is BS. First, the question requires you to use "real world" knowledge to assume that an employee can be either part-time or full-time. Secondly, that assumption isnt even true because in the "real world" you have casual staff who are distinct from PT...

    Challenging Psychometric Test Question

Re: Confessions Too be honest, that question is BS because it doesn't establish whether an employee can only be full-time or part-time. That is something you have to assume from information not stated in the question.

How to answer honesty questions? (Jobs)

That's probably a couple hundred dollars down the drain asking pointless and stupid questions which any gronk with half a brain could fake. No wonder people think HR is a useless waste of time and money. Edit: Couple hundred dollars for one applicant, overall testing isn't cheap (you have the...

    Reference Policy

No one really uses or values written references any more - the closest equivalent would be a LinkedIn recommendation. Even verbal references are declining in value. In most cases, they are usually performed on the preferred candidate for a role and their primary purpose is just to verify some...

Am I intelligent enough to be a medical student?

It's hard to say with the information provided. Also, I wouldn't classify "intelligence" as being indicative of whether a person has a shot at medicine. However, aptitude and talent for academic work is a factor - to what extent is pretty debatable. I've worked as a private tutor for about 5...

Am I intelligent enough to be a medical student?

I think this is the most realistic advice offered on the thread. At this point, being in year 10, it's probably too early to tell whether you are cut out for medicine. That being said, objectively assess your skill level to give yourself an idea of where you stand. Marks aren't always...

    What do employers look at?

These pretty much. Outside of graduate positions, your uni degree is mostly just going to qualify you for a role, but beyond that employers generally don't care about marks or prestige. Employers primarily look for candidates who are a good fit and that comes down to skills, experience and...
