I havent done those courses but I would go with what the prof was recommending, it seems like more of a core course as well- the CHEM one.

For the books, dont worry about it until the lecturer tells you in the first lecture, same with the eng1000 they will sort out the stream problems in week 1.

hehe if you mean designing computer hardware and systems then comp eng more but for graphics and multimedia stuff is towards comp sci but comp eng involves software together with hardware. Theres the b digital media/comp sci combo there.
