What two prescribed texts are you using for Crime Fiction?

Rear Window 'out of the genre'? What makes you say that? I've chosen to use Rear Window and The Skull Beneath The Skin primarily because those two I feel most confident about. We didn't finish studying The Real Inspector Hound until around the beginning/middle of last term, so most of my...

    bonus points

No offence but like, from what I've seen of most SRCs/Captains, they do not deserve extra points for doing almost a whole lot of nothing all year that almost anyone could do. six_demon_bag, you said it yourself. For the vast majority of schools, then, you could essentially say that people are...

    It ends this week...

Totally in. I've reached the point where I don't even care how I go anymore. I just want the damn thing out of my sight!

The difference between Crime Fiction & Crime Writing?

Mr Maloney, do you propose that one of your own novels should be included on the HSC syllabus? Perhaps you could direct us to a few texts which are better than the 'miserable examples' you have described. After all, in our HSC examinations we are also required to refer to related texts as well...

    Good pdhpe textbook

Jacaranda Outcomes is good, it has basically all the information you need and is pretty well set out. But instead of relying purely on their statistics / trends also have a look at the latest AIHW report (the latest is '08, you can download it online if you google it) because they tend to...

    2009 CSSA Trial HSC

Therewego: that was NOT the CSSA crime writing creative question... As Liyo said, it was a picture of the silhouette of a man... Are you entirely sure you did the Catholic trial?

Finished Major Work? Started Reflection Statement?

How big are the journals MEANT to be, anyway? I don't care about how much everyone has, just what the markers actually expect. I've been way lazy in documenting my process. I tend to have written things in huge blocks, and edited in huge blocks, rather than adding as I go. That's just the way I...

How many word's should an exam crime writing story be?

I would say around 900-1200 or thereabouts. But the main thing our teacher keeps stressing is that even if your story is short and "punchy", then you can score really well. Obviously you still need a certain amount of length to develop a degree of plot / show understanding of conventions / etc...

Finished Major Work? Started Reflection Statement?

I'm in the same position. I was coming first out of two before, but the other girl dropped out at the end of last term. Fingers crossed we all do well in the external then! ;)

    CSSA Ancient History Trials

I am so unprepared for this. On top of that, the exam will probably be 10x harder than it should be because it's a Catholic trial. My teacher's going to be pretty disappointed. :/ I'm going to be up all night cramming, just to try and pull together whatever small pieces of knowledge I can.

Finished Major Work? Started Reflection Statement?

I'm simultaneously making the last finishing touches to my story, plus writing my reflection statement (majorly based on report), plus trying desperately not to fail all my trial exams at the same time. Am I the only one without a mentor? I still don't really even understand what they are, my...

    History & Memory: Related Texts

Re: History & Memory: Related Texts As far as I'm aware Life is Beautiful is no longer on the syllabus. Unless you (or anyone else) have evidence to suggest otherwise?

Has anyone experienced a sense of elation as a result of composing their MW?

STARTING? shit, how did you end up doing? wouldn't you have had trials in between that as well? lol, this makes me feel slightly better about where i'm at.

    limitations to the short story?

Short stories must be 6000-8000 words in length. As well as this you must submit a 1000-1500 word reflection statement, and of course your Major Work Journal to document the ongoing process. The course is changing somewhat next year for you guys, so I can point you to the "rules" in the current...

    ARGHhhhhhhh!! (major work bonfire!)

Good to see I may not be the only one who's lost all motivation, inspiration and a great deal of the passion I initially held for my MW. Caused more stress over the last few weeks than any 1 unit subject should ever cause! After it's handed in, I don't think I even want to have it in my sight...

Around 50 days until due date. Where are you at?

This describes me almost perfectly. I had to go in yesterday (despite being on holidays) to meet with my teacher and am going in again next Tuesday. And I'm going to end up having to make up half my journal entries because I have been really slack with it. Argh. Panic mode is also setting in...
