    Prisoners and voting...

So do you think voting is a right of fundamental importance?

    Euthanasia for Life Prisoners

This issue is a tricky one. Part of me wants to say 'Of course they shouldn't be allowed to have euthanasia...let them suffer.' Another part says 'Yeah, they should if they're suffering...free choice is very important.' So I don't know. If we just let them suffer, are we being as bad as they...

    Hmm. Yeah. True.

    China-Australia Relations

I think we should get out of there myself, before we're in too deep. Being allies with America is ok, because at least we have the same political system, and, in theory, the same values. But China? Think of the things that've happened there. We don't want to get too caught up with a country like...

    Climate Change

Although I don't agree with Dazza, don't knock him for his views. He's as entitled to his opinions as you all are. And he IS right, essentially. Science DOES make mistakes and it IS right to question. If you simply accept something because someone tells you it's science, you're being just as...

    Prisoners and voting...

This post was inspired by the 'Euthanasia for Life Prisoners?' post. It got me thinking about the rights of those in jail, which reminded me of a discussion we had in Modern last year about whether people in jail should be allowed to vote. I got into an argument with my friend about voting as a...

    Does God exist?

The problem comes, I think, not in asking 'IS there God?' but first asking 'What IS God?' Ignosticism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For example, (sorry to pick on you, Iron, it's just that everyone has a pretty clear idea of your views about God), if Iron asked me whether I believed in...

Some are born gay, some achieve gayness, and some have gayness thrust upon them

Yeah, it's an ideal, and obviously no ideal is perfect. But society ultimately functions on ideals, just as it functions on 'people affecting other people's rides'. He obviously doesn't mean it in an absolutist sense, as is evident from the rest of the article.

Animal cruelty is the same as racism.

I wouldn't agree that it was always 'the same' as racism, but it's definitely an issue that gets overlooked too much. I guess if a person is being cruel to an animal simply because they *can* then I would consider that as being very similar to racism, though.

Should women be allowed to serve in the infantry?

Essentially, a woman should have the same right to die serving in the front line of the army as a man, if they want to. Funny vid about women in the front line. Very good: YouTube - Will Anderson @ Melbourne Comedy Gala 2007

Gay people should not be allowed to access IVF

Ah, can't rep you anymore. But I wish I could. :)

Gay people should not be allowed to access IVF

In the end, I think we can't consider ourselves a country which gives everyone a 'fair go' and all those other great things we're supposed to value, if we don't even allow two people who love each other to have a family.

    When is it a baby?

Interesting case, which was what started me thinking about this in the first place... I was talking to my school chaplain today and he was telling me about a friend of his who had to decide whether or not to give an abortion to a woman who was 36 weeks pregnant. And she was suicidal. So...

Some are born gay, some achieve gayness, and some have gayness thrust upon them

Glad you like it, Tangent. :) I agree with you that it shouldn't be just aimed at Christians, but I think in an American context, those are the sorts of groups that lobby to the govt, or did, during the Bush regime. They've even made ads against gays and broadcast them on TV. From what I know...
