    2013 CSSA Mathematics Thoughts?

The question was: for what values of y does this series does not have an infinite sum, I solved for r>1 and r<-1. r<-1 gave no solution and r>1 gave a solution of y>1/2. I think I got this question wrong since my friend pointed out to me that since the question implies that for this series to...

Re: HSC 2013 3U Marathon Thread Is there meant to be a (+ g) in the inside? I got the expression without the +g

All you had to do was derive area in respect to theta, sub theta=pi/12 into dA/d(theta) and show that it equals 0, then test both sides and show that its max. Since r^2 is a constant and is always >0 then you can disregard the r^2 when it comes to testing. Thats the way you're meant to solve it...

An infinite sum does not equate to a concrete value. i.e. The sum just gets bigger and bigger, whereas a limiting sum has an actual value. That's the way I interpret it as, probably lost 1 mark for that question zzz

I got 300 because stupid me thought that a grandfather clock was digital and did sum from 1-24. 300 looked like a nice number so i was like ok this sounds right =(

For the rectangle subtended inside a inside the triangle, you had to use similar triangles, was very tricky, at least stared at it for a good 10 minutes

The last question all you were required to do was sub the value of pi/12 into the derivative of the area in respect the theta and test to show that it gives maximum, or you could use 3u trig double angle identities but imo for a 2u exam last question, it was pretty tricky indeed especially part 1

The thing about the chiming question, was the question specified a grandfather clock which obviously is not digital. And I did the sum from 1-24 rather then 2 x sum from 1-12

    2013 CSSA Mathematics Thoughts?

The 2 mark probability, forgot the BH, BB, HB scenario, the clock chiming question I did 24 hrs instead of 12 and the question which asked for what values of y does this series not have an infinite sum. The play on words for the series questions screwed me as for a series to not have a infinite...
