As a young person do you feel disenfranchised by the two major parties?

My question is why don't you know what you're talking about? I want you to prove your claim that the Greens are out to destroy Australia.

I don't know the answer to that. I'm in the same position as you. I do know that the Greens oppose it, so getting them into the balance of power (so they can block the filter) is my first priority.

The claim that the free market will solve environmental problems is the ultimate Libertarian extremist irony.

You're such a bitter little man. Why do you seek to misrepresent your political opponents instead of facing them respectfully on their political differences?

Counter-point: ACT Greens, Tasmanian Greens, and heck, even the Liberal Democrats in the UK. And I'd also say holding balance of power is breaking the two party dominance.

Hmm, my bad, thought it was 49-29. OK, now I'm worried - how can 40% of Australians like Tony Abbott? Or maybe they just prefer him to Rudd in the same way I'd prefer to eat mouldy cheese rather than faeces.

Yeah fair enough, I saw that, I was just pointing out a further confirmation of the trend. :)

But they already do. How much of what you fear about them is actually from another time in politics when they were a fringe 3rd party?

Hey Lentern, the latest Galaxy poll for Queensland STATE voting intentions has the Greens increasing from 13% to 16% of the primary vote. Yet another strong indication that they'll win a Federal Senate seat in Queensland. Galaxy: 55-45 to LNP in Queensland – The Poll Bludger

Keep in mind that poll also gives Rudd at 50% preferred PM rating to Abbott's 30%. So while people would like to vote Liberal, Abbott is a major turn-off.

    Nationalise the bottled water industry

Do you realize that fluoridation of our drinking water is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous Communist plot we have ever had to face?

how hard would it be to set up a new country within australia?

This thread is a nice thought experiment, but the truth is it's impossible and not even worth considering.

Fuck yeah Rudd is *OUTTA HERE*

There's nothing about my post that wasn't serious. The Australian Liberal Party has ditched its roots - economical liberalism and parts of social liberalism. Malcolm Fraser says it better than I. Don't take it personally - the ALP is no longer a labour party, either.

Well, to be fair, the Australian Liberal Party is no longer a liberal party.

    Mandatory Internet Censorship in Australia

And what of the rights to free speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion in China (or rather, lack thereof)? Where do these fit into your defence of China's human rights?

    Nationalise the bottled water industry

Bottled water tends to be a lot worse than tap-water. Fewer quality controls, more impurities.

Yeah, that's the spin being put out by the mining companies, sure. Just for the record: it's a tax on profits beyond those forecast (hence 'super profits'), not a 40% tax on straight revenue/profits. I'd be happy if the mining companies were taxed at the same rate as the banks (and thus most...
